About The Position

Caterpillar Financial currently has an opportunity for an entry-level Accountant (12 month contract) to join the Finance team, located in Tullamarine.

You will be responsible for; primarily Accounts Receivable duties, running daily Direct debts, applying daily bank statements, and reconciling related accounts, Other duties may include; completing other various reconciliations, clearing and communicating posting errors to the appropriate parties; conducting and/or assisting in the documentation of accounting projects; preparing or assisting in the preparation of accounting reports and government surveys.

This role will offer you a wide variety of responsibilities in a friendly and supportive environment. The role is in a high-paced environment and you will be required to work under pressure periodically in order to meet cut-off times. The candidate must be good at prioritising their workload in order to meet deadlines.

In this role, you will assist Senior accountants to perform accounting duties of an entry-level nature.

Further duties will include;

  • Performs accounting duties of a moderately complex and varied nature under supervision.
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Preparation of journal entries for month-end processing.
  • Back up for Accounts payable duties.
  • Completing various government surveys under supervision.
  • Applies knowledge of basic accounting methods and procedures to projects and day-to-day activities.
  • May participate in accounting system developments, testing and implementation.
  • Understands and assist with the established continuous improvement objectives for the department (LEAN)

Key Skills Required;

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritising and time allocation.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
  • Financial Record Keeping: Knowledge of financial record keeping processes, methods, and tools; ability to maintain accurate and thorough records of financial transactions.

To be successful in this role you will need to;

  • Demonstrate the ability to seek out relevant information.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Standards is preferable.
  • Ability to create and maintain Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
  • Data manipulation abilities in Excel.
  • Must show initiative, leadership, accountability and the ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional departmental teams.
  • Work well under pressure and be able to prioritise work loads.
  • Must be a good team player and ability to work in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Accounting degree with relevant work experience
