Due to upcoming works within the business, SYPAQ requires a motivated and ambitious Data Scientist / Analyst / Engineer to join our incredible team based in Melbourne from Mid 2025.
This position is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a leading AI research project. This project will involve the development of models and simulation that will inform the development of sophisticated AI and machine-learning based solutions for a series of operations research problems. These are complex problems, involving multiple systems, functioning within a niche dynamic operating environment.
We are looking for a data scientist/analyst/engineer to join our small and innovative R&D team on a fast-paced collaborative project. The project will draw on your dynamic data analytics, machine learning and modelling skills. This project is in its infancy and presents an excellent opportunity to influence and shape the form and direction of future derivative products.
This would suit an individual who loves to undertake a range of diverse and challenging problems. You will need to work collaboratively within a small diverse team across simultaneous tasks with multiple stakeholders. You will utilise your knowledge of science, mathematics and computing combined with critical thinking to assist with the deep analysis of candidate solutions to understand their performance bounds. You will be involved in the preparation of reports, software and other deliverables to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
- Performing data synthesis, implementation of models and concepts for quick analysis and evaluation.
- Assist in the definition of problems, as part of the investigative process.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and insights to enable informative assessment of candidate AI and machine learning solutions to stakeholders
- Strong numerical and mathematical skills, especially in the area of statistics.
- Proven analytics techniques with a background in either Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science
- Experience in any of the following: Python, TensorFlow, MATLAB, R or other high-level languages
- Experience in rapid prototyping and/or research environments.
- A strong interest to learn and develop new capability in an emerging field.
- An understanding across the Machine Learning and/or Operations Research domains.
- A background in Defence or Electronic Warfare
- Engineering, Applied Science, Computer Science degree or equivalent.
- Australian Citizen
- The ability to achieve an Australian Defence Security Clearance at minimum NV2
- Previous Defence experience (ADF / Defence Public Service) would be highly regarded
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team or independently
