At eSafety, you’ll be part of a passionate team under the leadership of an independent Commissioner who is supported by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Our eSafety staff are ACMA employees who are subject to the terms and conditions of employment in the ACMA's Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced and growing organisation tasked with the mission critical remit of helping Australians have safer and more positive experiences online.
As the Executive Manager and Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) you will lead the Technology, Data and Digital Enablement Branch which is a critical enabling service incorporating the following functions:
- Digital Products
- Data Analytics & Information Services
- Regulatory Products & Engineering
- IT Operations & Support
- Cyber security
- Tech Advisory & Innovation
The Branch also works closely with its counterparts within the ACMA in the delivery of some shared corporate ICT services but operates its own cloud platform, specialist business systems and digital products related to eSafety’s regulatory operations.
Technology is a critical driver of eSafety’s regulatory operations, helping investigators remediate online harm through our complaint schemes, providing support to victims of image-based abuse, cyber bullying, adult cyber abuse, and illegal and restricted content such as child sexual abuse material and terrorist and violent extremist content. It also supports the handling of highly sensitive material that must be protected through robust and privacy preserving ICT systems, as well as legal, compliance and enforcement activities that require strong evidence handling and streamlined workflows.
Being a future thinking innovator that helps eSafety effectively implement optimal technology solutions to support its remit whilst also being deeply experienced in the management of risk, cyber threats, planning, strategy and delivery within Commonwealth frameworks will be critical to the success of this role.
You will lead your teams through successful digital transformation initiatives, improving processes and engagement with the business and positioning the Branch as a trusted partner. You will establish strong relationships with key stakeholders, always working to understand business needs and position your teams to deliver.
You will mentor staff and support continuous improvement of processes and systems, ensuring eSafety stays primed to be a leading innovator in online safety regulation.
You will be a confident and experienced communicator and presenter, able to uplift digital business capability across the organisation by leading training, digital literacy and cyber security awareness initiatives. You will develop strategies to attract prime digital talent and position eSafety to face future challenges in this space.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- extensive experience as a senior technology leader within government
- an innovative and experimental mindset with experience in the strategic use of technology and data.
- outstanding leadership skills, and be a people-centric leader and customer-centric digital innovator motivated by eSafety’s mission and the potential technology has to optimise and scale operations and help Australians have safer experiences online.
- experience leading diverse teams and be deeply experienced in harnessing and developing digital and technology capabilities.
- excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- experience within the context and technology solutions relevant to eSafety’s operations will be highly regarded (regulatory technology, compliance and investigations solutions; intelligence, data analytics and AI).
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment with eSafety, applicants must be Australian citizens.
The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a NV1 security clearance or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
Successful applicants are required to satisfy an employment screening process which may include demonstrating Australian citizenship, satisfactory completion of security and integrity checks and successful completion of a medical assessment.
Due to the nature of the role, it will only be offered on a full-time basis.
