The Financial Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the University's financial integrity. This includes overseeing external financial reporting, external audits, and internal controls. Key responsibilities involve preparing complex financial entries, reconciliations, and analyses, while optimising business processes for accuracy. Additionally, the position supports the senior financial accountant in revenue recognition and broader financial accounting initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in financial accounting, with a proven track record in a similar role within a comparable organisation. They will have a deep understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant regulations, and be skilled in preparing accurate and concise financial statements. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, capable of identifying and implementing process improvements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The Financial Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the University's financial integrity. This includes overseeing external financial reporting, external audits, and internal controls. Key responsibilities involve preparing complex financial entries, reconciliations, and analyses, while optimising business processes for accuracy. Additionally, the position supports the senior financial accountant in revenue recognition and broader financial accounting initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, preparing complex financial entries and reconciliations, and providing technical accounting advice.
- Assessing revenue recognition for grants and contracts, performing monthly revenue calculations and analysis, and preparing related journal entries and reconciliations.
- Participating in the preparation of financial statements, external audits, and other compliance requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in financial accounting, with a proven track record in a similar role within a comparable organisation. They will have a deep understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant regulations, and be skilled in preparing accurate and concise financial statements. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, capable of identifying and implementing process improvements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset.
You will also have:
- Fully qualified or working towards Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA)
- Graduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Proven ability to contribute to preparation of streamlined financial statements and associated external audit.
This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
