We currently have a one year, fixed term full-time opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our professional and highly engaged Data Analytics & Insights department within our growing Transformation division. This role will be based our Collingwood Head Office

Reporting directly to the Manager of Data Engineering, the Senior Data Engineer will be instrumental in enhancing our data and analytics capabilities across the organization.

This role focuses on enterprise data engineering across Databricks technology and involves close collaboration with various business units and functions within the Bank to understand, capture, detail, and articulate requirements for our data initiatives.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the development and enhancement of the organisation’s Azure databricks platform which is used in the creation and delivery of data analytics products and services
  • Partner with IT Infrastructure, Security, and technical teams to implement and maintain the Terraform IaC codebase, ensuring efficient provisioning and management of Azure resources for the Data Team.
  • Contribute significantly towards the design and establishment of the organisation’s data engineering best practices, automation and operating model
  • Partner with architects to ensure data engineering perspectives are integrated into enterprise-wide data architecture design and build discussions.
  • Promote and implement modern Azure cloud data engineering practices.
  • Participate in the design and delivery of the enterprise data lakehouse frameworks across metadata management, quality assistance, logging and monitoring.
  • Champion the development and implementation of data engineering best practices, automation processes, and the operating model within the organization.
  • Provide technical support to other Data Engineers across the team.


What You Will Bring

  • Experience in data engineering within a complex commercial organisation’s data warehousing environment with Microsoft Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure Key Vault, Data Lake, Python/PySpark programming.
  • Advanced knowledge and experiences with Azure data landing zone design and architecture, network and data security, and RBAC based IAM management practice.
  • Knowledge and experience with Terraform IaC for provisioning Azure data engineering resources is a big plus
  • Extensive knowledge and experiences with Azure DevOps repository, code branching and Azure DevOps YAML pipelines for engineering artefacts auto deployment and
  • Strong SQL capabilities in integrating diverse data sets into cohesive and functional analytics platforms, ensuring data quality and accessibility for stakeholders
  • A collaborative working style that is steadfast and approachable
  • Hands-on experiences in designing and building metadata driven frameworks, pipeline QA, logging, monitoring and auto alerting frameworks for cost -effective, reliable, repeatable, fault-tolerant data engineering pipeline architecture and frameworks
  • Team player, collaborative and willing to share knowledge and mentor other engineers
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management or similar
