Lead the change, from the frontline

Based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney, the Senior Strategy Analyst will provide advice on strategy development, commercial opportunities and transactions to support corporate objectives. The role involves analysing Australian energy markets for opportunities and risks, anticipating changes, and quantifying their impacts over an investment time horizon.

The Senior Strategy Analyst’s insight will inform the evolution of Shell Energy’s physical, financial and commercial portfolio as it relates to the electricity market. This will often require triangulation of multiple sources of imperfect and incomplete information to distil into credible and supportable views. Creative, critical and pragmatic thinking is an essential acumen to delivering these supportable views in a timeframe and with the level of accuracy suited to the situation.

Given the technical nature of the work, a strong level of analytical skills and the ability to tailor the level of detail to suit the nature and conditions of the opportunity is essential. A consistently high level of accuracy is required at all times to provide both internal and external parties the tools and confidence they need to make decisions.

The role also involves proactively engaging, consulting and collaborating across the business to explore opportunities and to coordinate appropriate analysis and project management. This requires a solid understanding of Shell Energy’s different areas of business, including the market and regulatory conditions in which it operates. This understanding of Shell Energy’s business extends to maintaining an understanding of the interdependencies between the different areas and ensuring commercial assessments appropriately account for these interdependencies.

The Strategy and Portfolio Development team is responsible for supporting the corporate growth and sustainability of Shell Energy.

What you’ll bring

Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

• Experience in strategy formulation and/or commercial development would be highly regarded.
• Excellent ability to summarise and communicate findings and insights in written, visual or verbal format
• Experience in a quantitative field, or a research higher degree
• Excellent inter-personal skills.
• Knowledge of economics, financial markets, risk quantification, either from formal or on-the-job experience)
• Knowledge of electricity markets, preferably the NEM
• Mathematical and modelling skills; ability to build models.
• Data visualisation skills in Excel, PowerBI or Python
• SQL experience is desirable or demonstrated ability to learn technical skills quickly.
• A degree in a quantitative discipline, or evidence of equivalent deeply technical self-learning.
