The Role

Our Financial Management Division (FMD) is seeking a Tax Accountant to join their team for a period of 18 months. This role is responsible for managing the tax and tax related accounting requirements for Mitsui & Co. (Australia) Ltd (MCA), Mitsui & Co. NZ Limited (MNZ), the consolidated group, and its associated entities. The role also provides effective compliance and consulting taxation services to the Mitsui group.

Job Description

Key responsibilities of the role are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparing consolidated tax return and supporting schedules, including International Dealings, Capital Gains, and Reportable Tax Position Schedules.
  • Prepare and submit the MEC group’s annual withholding tax return, ensuring timely and accurate lodgment.
  • Liaise with the Mitsui group companies to ensure their income tax returns are prepared and signed off by tax advisors.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely submission of tax returns for Mitsui New Zealand.
  • Manage the monthly preparation of PAYG instalments, tax settlement journals, and cash settlements in line with the tax funding agreement.
  • Support quarterly tax effect accounting entries, cash flow forecasting, and deferred tax maintenance for the MCA consolidated group.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and Mitsui group companies to ensure smooth tax reporting processes and meet strict deadlines.
  • Provide support to the Accounting and Tax teams in Mitsui Japan and Singapore and assist with audit requests and tax-related inquiries
  • Administer and update tax effect accounting and tax return templates in CCH Integrator, providing user support across Mitsui group companies.
  • Conduct research into various tax issues as required, assist with the Tax Transparency Report, and support ad hoc tax-related projects.

Desired Skills And Experience

The Person

You will enjoy working within a successful team of talented individuals and bring your own proven experience to the business and you have the following qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of Australian accounting standards, income tax legislation, corporation law and awareness of global developments in international tax.
  • High level business acumen with a demonstrated ability to plan and co-ordinate multiple projects and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse tax issues and develop and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Basic understanding of accounting journals (i.e. debit and credit).
  • Ability to work autonomously and display self-initiative is required.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to persuade and negotiate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Intermediate level of IT proficiency with particular emphasis on SAP ECC, Outlook and MS Office including Word and Excel as well as computerised databases and spreadsheet packages.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with an ability to prioritise and co-ordinate work to meet strict deadlines.
  • Competent in the use of tax software programs and experience using CCH Global Integrator is an advantage.
