IT TOOK 10 YEARS FOR NIAA TO RESPOND | So colour us skeptical that the Feds are actually going to support proven place-based, indigenous owned and female founded initiatives that are proactively closing the gap 🤔. (The cycle repeats, but real change is happening…unsupported) The Commonwealth Government tabled the Closing the Gap 2024 Annual Report and 2025 Implementation Plan in Parliament this week. Another report. Another set of recommendations. Another acknowledgment of the challenges faced by First Nations communities. 👉🏽https://lnkd.in/grztNGuz Necessary? Yes. Solutions? No. For years, Make It Happen HQ and other place-based organisations have been driving real, measurable outcomes—without waiting for policy shifts or funding promises (not that any have been forthcoming). We’re on the ground. We’re building solutions that are: ✔️ Culturally relevant ✔️ Community-led ✔️ Impact-driven We know what works: 👊🏽 Economic empowerment changes lives. 👊🏽 Entrepreneurial ecosystems create intergenerational wealth. 👊🏽 Data proves that community-built solutions deliver results. And we’re already delivering on the priorities outlined in Closing the Gap. While policies are debated, we’re: ⚡️Creating jobs and economic opportunities for First Nations entrepreneurs. ⚡️Supporting self-determined, place-based initiatives that drive real change. ⚡️Proving that when solutions are built by the community, for the community, they work. Yet, instead of investing in what’s already working, we see another cycle of reports, discussions, and pilots—while proven initiatives go unfunded. 🤔 We made an original submission for National Indigenous Australians Agency funding for Make It Happen HQ - First Nation Innovation, Esports Gaming Hub & Think Tank in 2014 and got a response (aka rejection letter) in 2024, an unverified word document no less! (no that’s not a typo…2024) What’s needed now isn’t more recommendations. It’s real investment in solutions that work. 📢 To policymakers, funders, and impact investors: 💡Support Indigenous organisations with a track record of success. 💡Fund Indigneous initiatives already creating economic and social change. 💡Trust First Nations-owned and operated solutions to drive long-term impact. 💡Get rid of the underperforming non-indigenous organisations that get the majority of the funds. Make It Happen HQ is ready. The question is—are you?
