One of the world's greatest municipal libraries is situated in the heart of south west Sydney and our members have the opportunity to see it in a guided tour supported by Ned Mannoun Mayor of Liverpool. This is combined with a visit to Liverpool's Civic Place, the city's newest and greenest office tower led by Council in partnership with Built. In September of this year the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions listed Yellamundie Library in Liverpool as a finalist in the IFLA/Baker & Taylor Public Library of the Year Award 2024. The building's design and quality sits alongside Shenzen Library North, Beijing Library and Kaunas County Library as exemplars of future-focused library design. The $600 million urban renewal project exemplifies the rapid transformation of Southwest Sydney’s CBD. The project brings new public spaces, community facilities, commercial offices and in the very near future a hotel to the heart of Liverpool’s CBD. Experience first-hand how Liverpool is becoming a major hub in South West Sydney - https://lnkd.in/gAmGetJh Thank you to our event sponsor Liverpool City Council. #SiteTour #Liverpool #UrbanRenewal #PropertyDevelopment Ross Grove

Is NSW losing its competitive edge in industrial development? In their recent article for the Property Council NSW, Daniela Vujic, Director, Planning, Ports and Logistics specialist, and Gordon Kirkby, Director, Planning, Industrial specialist at Ethos Urban, looked at some of the reasons why NSW is at risk of losing its competitive edge in the industrial and logistics sector. With industrial rents soaring in Sydney and developers grappling with planning and infrastructure bottlenecks, the question isn’t just whether NSW can keep pace - it’s whether it can lead. Industrial tenants are increasingly eyeing Brisbane and Melbourne, drawn by lower rents and faster development approvals. Yet, NSW holds its ground with favourable foreign investment policies, avoiding the surcharge taxes that challenge interstate competitors. But for how long? Planning processes in NSW often work against, rather than with, industrial growth. Developers face outdated controls, excessive documentation requirements, and a lack of infrastructure alignment. "It’s planning on the go" says Kirkby. The result? Delays, inflated costs, and restricted productivity, with industrial land unable to serve its intended purpose. The industrial sector needs a champion in government - a voice advocating for reforms that align planning controls with operational realities. Without these changes, NSW risks ceding its strategic advantage to states with more streamlined systems. What reforms do you see as the most critical to improving the state’s competitiveness?
