The Property Council WA is a champion of high-quality development throughout WA and continues to advocate for greater consistency and standardisation in WA’s planning system. This week, we've made a submission to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage on the draft Local Government Design Review Panel Manual. Our submission aims to reduce cost and time delays associated with unnecessary Design Review Panel processes, which are crucial to ensuring that projects remain viable. Property Council WA believes that while the draft Manual is a step forward, it requires stronger enforceability, consistency, and streamlined processes to achieve its intended objectives. Congratulations to the Hawaiian team for winning the Best Diversity or Inclusion Initiative at the 2024 WA Property Awards! Hawaiian - along with their hair and grooming tenants across their network of Perth shopping centres - teamed with not-for-profit Short Back & Sidewalks to offer in-salon haircuts without judgement, for people living under or close to the poverty line. As a property company with a difference, Hawaiian is committed to the communities in which we operate, and they want to see people thrive. The six-week pilot program began with the aim of delivering 100 free haircuts to marginalised West Australians. The dedicated salon retailers sharpened their scissors and got to work to help those in their communities experiencing poverty and disadvantage, to help lift their self-confidence and raise self-esteem. TRCB's work on Busselton Central Shopping Centre earned them the Best Retail Development/Redevelopment at the 2024 WA Property Awards! The redevelopment has provided a much-needed boost to amenity in the heart of this popular Western Australian tourist destination. Built on the eastern edge of the existing centre, the development consists of specialty stores, multiple food and beverage tenancies, new amenities, a state-of-the-art cinema complex, and Busselton Pavilion – a micro-brewery and specialty wine store. TRCB worked from the outset to create an extension to the centre that is sympathetic to its original structure and the neighbouring Mitchell Park. This approach is reflected in the site-responsive design which emphasises connectivity and appropriateness of scale. Congratulations to the TRCB team! Recently, we brought the WA 500 Women in Property cohort back together at the Mid-Year Event, hosted by MinterEllison.   It was a fantastic evening filled with networking as we reflected on the progress the cohort has made over the first half of the program.
