𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴!! A big thank you to everyone who attended the Urban Land Institute ULI Australia 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲® 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 this week! Your participation made the event a resounding success. Special thanks to PwC for hosting us in their fantastic space, and to our keynote speaker Andrew Iles and moderator Rachel Smith for their insightful contributions. We are incredibly grateful to our expert panel for their thoughtful insights and engaging discussion. Their perspectives provided valuable clarity on both the challenges and opportunities shaping Melbourne's property market. Sameer Chopra, Head of Research, Pacific & ESG, Asia Pacific, CBRE began by reflecting on Melbourne’s evolution, noting that while the city has faced recent challenges in maintaining its position as a top investment destination, there is significant potential to rebuild its vibrancy and appeal. Miriam Patterson, Fund Manager - CPOF, Charter Hall emphasized the importance of creating the right conditions to attract foreign investment, expressing optimism that short-term hurdles, such as land taxes, are unlikely to persist long term. Mark Pomeroy, CEO, Pomeroy Pacific raised thought-provoking questions about the development market, highlighting areas for improvement and calling for greater collaboration to streamline taxes and governance, turning plans into actionable progress. Matt Walton, Development Director, Home underscored the need to accelerate approval processes through initiatives like the DFP pathway, paving the way for more efficient development. Kathy Johnson, Managing Director, Yarraport shared a positive outlook, suggesting that interest rates may begin to ease after the first half of the year, providing much-needed relief to the market. On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of moderating the Urban Land Institute Brisbane, Women’s Leadership Initiative event on Market Barriers to Affordable Housing Development. A big thank you to Brooke Morrissy, Rebecca Oelkers, and Nicole Bennetts RPIA for sharing your valuable insights and experiences on the topic. We only scratched the surface of this critical issue; however, we discussed the spectrum of affordability, the need to develop at scale to make an impact, and the role of institutional investors. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this insightful conversation!
