👏 Congratulations to UNSW alumni and architecture tutor Jansen Che on winning The Kharkiv Freedom Square Revival Competition with his project ‘Memory’. The competition challenges architects around the world to develop visionary concepts for one of Kharkiv’s most iconic sites, sparking inclusive dialogue about the future of a central symbol of Ukraine’s identity and resilience. Jansen says: “This achievement is particularly meaningful to me - not only because of its vital role in the revival of Ukraine, but also because it was chaired by Lord Norman Foster. He is someone that I have always looked up to throughout my career. It is a privilege to contribute to such a significant project, and I am excited to see the vision for Kharkiv take shape.” Jansen also previously received the Walter and Gillian Bunning UNSW Scholarship, the Red Dot Design Award and Good Design Award. 🏷️ Architecture Competitions // Buildner

Dr Fatemeh Aminpour unpacks how the recent NSW Pattern Book Design Competition winners show a new vision for family life in high-density housing. https://lnkd.in/ggT9ugWR 🏷️ UNSW, UNSW City Futures Research Centre, Fatemeh Aminpour, Government Architect NSW

Congratulations to Bachelor of City Planning (Honours) alum Eloise Reddy on receiving a fellowship from the State Library of New South Wales as part of the inaugural Summer Fellow Program for 2025 👏 📚 The Summer Fellow Program facilitates and supports the use of the Library's unique collections for a three-month period of creative practice, study and research. Eloise's project will investigate how cultural planning theory of the 1980s-1990s has influenced contemporary placemaking practice in Australia.

The Build to Rent tax reform bill will likely produce more secure, quality homes for tenants, but not necessarily more affordable housing. UNSW Prof. Hal Pawson says more could be done, including mandatory inclusionary zoning to require more affordable units to be built in new developments. ⤵️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gN_emFPK 🏷️ UNSW City Futures Research Centre
