Continuous fetal monitoring, often used during complex or induced labours, can impact comfort and increase medical interventions. But according to a recent study by UTS researchers A/Prof Deborah Fox and Dr. Vanessa Scarf, most women aren’t informed about their options. Some of our 2nd year students in the Bachelor of Sport & Exercise Science have recently been involved in physiology testing for Manly Swim Club with one of our sessional academic staff members, Christine McDermott. What a fantastic opportunity for them to use the skills they've learned in class and experience the world of applied sports science by being on the pool deck by 6am measuring blood lactate and heart rate!

Dr. Oscar Lederman argues it should be — and he’s leading by example with Pasifika Moving, a pilot program designed to empower Pasifika women in Western Sydney. The initiative, built through a co-design process with the Pasifika community, focuses on addressing barriers to exercise, from childcare needs to cultural sensitivities. With physical activity as a tool for health, social connection, and cultural identity, this program is helping families thrive. This International Stuttering Awareness Day, UTS's Australian Stuttering Research Centre (ASRC) is proud to offer new free online treatment programs for children, adolescents, and adults. Designed to be accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, these programs aim to break down barriers to treatment—especially for those in rural or remote areas. Stuttering affects around 800,000 Australians. By improving access to care, the ASRC hopes to make a lasting difference in the lives of those who stutter. We had an incredible time at our recent event, where we brought together some of the brightest minds to discuss 'Will AI make healthcare smarter, faster and fairer?' Hosted by the award-winning journalist Tracey Spicer AM, our distinguished panellists—Dr. Jean-Frédéric Levesque, Professor Debra Anderson, Professor Michael Blumenstein Blumenstein, and Baker "Becker" Tamory—delivered deep insights into the challenges and opportunities that AI presents for the future of healthcare. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and contributed to this meaningful conversation.
