How are you keeping cool in this record-breaking heat? According to Sebastian Pfautsch GAICD from Western Sydney University's Urban Transformations Research Centre (UTRC), many parks and playgrounds aren't safe in temperatures like these. Prof Pfautsch is dedicated to revealing the dangers of extreme heat. We spoke to him in Sink or Swim, a podcast about beating the heat in Western Sydney. Find it wherever you get your podcasts or follow our link in bio. https://lnkd.in/gxrKiaZc

Sydney's East enjoys way more than its fair share of swimming spots, from ocean pools to municipal aquatic centres (not to mention all the indoor pools run by private schools and operators where kids can learn to swim). That's why it's great to hear that "Pondi" has reopened for Western Sydney's swimmers in its second summer season (though we must admit we are equally excited about the long-awaited reopening of the much-missed Shark Beach - headed down there this afternoon!). Listen to Angelica Ojinnika Psillakis talk about the uneven distribution of Sydney's swimming infrastructure on Sink or Swim - wherever you get your podcasts or via our website https://lnkd.in/gdQ_Gj9v

One year after Sink or Swim host Angelica Ojinnaka-Psillakis visited the Mount Druitt Pool Party to record for the podcast, she returned to spread the word about the importance recognising the barriers people can face when it comes to learning to swim. There was a crazy amount of rain but it didn't stop some die-hards from getting amongst it! 🤩 "How do you make a podcast? Why do you love history *so* much? How did you get famous?" ... were just some of questions for history professor Anna Clark, asked by grade 4 students at Orange Grove Primary School today in Sydney. Anna and Jane Curtis listened to a Hey History! episode with the students, did a learning activity together and then it was nonstop Q & A. Thanks so much for having us.

The Impact team attended an excellent symposium at the University of Sydney this week, hosted by Lea Redfern, on podcasting as a scholarly method - the ethical frameworks we build into it and the impact it can have. Very much looking forward to hearing the forthcoming Access All Areas podcast made by Lea and her colleagues, about abortion access in Australia.
