This is the ancient town of Nanxun in Huzhou. 🌟 Nanxun has a long history, with human activity here since the Neolithic Age. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it became wealthy through the silk industry. 🌟 Today, when you come to Nanxun, you must take a good look at the following places. 1️⃣ First: Look at the Jiangnan residential houses Located in the area crisscrossed by rivers, the locals in Nanxun live by the water and have built unique Jiangnan-style residences, among which the most characteristic are the Baijian Lou built during the Ming Dynasty. The hundred or so residences standing on both sides of the river, paired with the arch bridge in the middle, are especially reminiscent of the Jiangnan water town style. 2️⃣ Second: Architecture blending Chinese and Western styles Walking in Nanxun, you will find many buildings that are a fusion of Chinese and Western styles. For example, the former residence of Zhang Shiming has Jiangnan-style carvings paired with a Western ballroom; Liu's Ladder Shop features a blend of Roman columns and horse-head walls; Western-style sofas and crystal chandeliers also interpret the Sino-Western fusion of Nanxun. 3️⃣ Third: Look at the garden style There are also many Jiangnan-style gardens in Nanxun ancient town, especially the Xiaolian Zhuang. This was once the residence of the wealthiest man in Nanxun, combining a garden, family temple, and charity estate in one complex. Xiaolian Zhuang has rockeries, Western-style buildings, maple and pine paths, which are particularly beautiful. 4️⃣ Finally, don't miss the Nanxun specialty cuisine, such as delicious fish ball soup, meat pancakes, mushy eel shreds, river delicacies, smoked bean tea, Nanxun pig's trotters, etc., all worth a try.
