Visit the Cham Thewi Vihara, over a thousand years old.

Pong Yang Kok Temple is one of the oldest temples in Lampang province. Inside the temple, there are important and interesting features including: The Cham Thewi Vihara, dating back to the time of Queen Cham Thewi in 1253 AD, is a beautiful wooden vihara exemplifying Lampang's architectural style. The three-tiered roof was originally made of wooden shingles but has since been replaced with clay tiles. There is no ceiling. The structure of the vihara, including the beams and columns, is adorned with gold patterns, differing from typical viharas which usually feature painted designs. Inside, there is a small mandapa housing the principal Buddha image, known as Khong Phra Chao. The base is made of brick with intricate stucco designs, housing the principal Buddha image in the diamond meditation posture. The left wall of the mandapa features a stucco arch housing a statue of the Buddha in the blessing posture. The pulpit is made of lacquered and gilded wood with floral designs, set on a brick base with stucco patterns and decorated with various colored glazed tiles in Lanna style. The Gu Chang Nob was built after the completion of the Cham Thewi Vihara. It is a large wooden elephant statue in a kneeling position, raising its trunk with a lotus flower above its head in a gesture of reverence, facing the Cham Thewi Vihara.
