Explore the Footsteps of Momotaro | A Historical Tour of Okayama Castle

We visited Okayama, the hometown of Momotaro, during our transfer from Takamatsu to Himeji Castle. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from JR Okayama Station to Okayama Castle. In early December, the streets of Okayama are lined with ginkgo trees with yellow leaves and maple trees with red leaves. Okayama Castle is a castle with a rich history located in Kita Ward, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The keep of Okayama Castle is covered with black wooden boards, earning it the nickname "Crow Castle" or "Golden Crow Castle." The keep is a five-story, six-level building and is one of Japan's oldest castles. 🏯 From a distance, the keep of Okayama Castle looks like a single building, but on its west side, there is a yagura called Shiozō. A yagura directly attached to the keep without a corridor is called a complex keep. This architectural style gives the keep of Okayama Castle a sense of stability.
