Jianguo West Road spans two districts.

Jianguo West Road spans Huangpu and Xuhui Districts. It starts from Ruijin 2nd Road in the east and ends at Hengshan Road in the west. The section from Ruijin 2nd Road to South Shaanxi Road belongs to Huangpu District, and the section from South Shaanxi Road to Hengshan Road belongs to Xuhui District. The road was built in 1912 and was formerly known as "Bazi Road" or "Dabachang Road". In 1920, it was renamed "Fuli Road" after a French expatriate who died in World War I. At that time, the road only extended to the current Gao'an Road, and was extended westward to the current Wanping Road after 1922. In October 1943, it was renamed "Nanhai Road", and in December 1945, it was renamed "Jianguo West Road".
