Laos Trip 6: Vientiane's Patuxay Monument - A Witness to Laos' Independence and History

When traveling to Laos, the Patuxay Monument in Vientiane is a must-see. This historically significant building, originally named the "Victory Monument," was built to celebrate Laos' liberation from French colonial rule, commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in the war, and mark the country's independence. In 1975, when Laos was liberated, the parade passed through here, and it was named the "Patuxay Monument." From a distance, it looks like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. Upon closer inspection, the exquisite carvings are full of Buddhist and Lao cultural characteristics. Looking up at the classic features, the decorations on the eaves of the door are very special and exquisite. Visitors put their phones on the ground to capture the effect of their reflection standing under the decorations. The entrance fee to the Patuxay Monument is CNY 10. Since you're here, why not go up? I climbed the stairs while admiring the view. There are seven floors in total, each with a different view and a different feeling. Standing at the top of the Patuxay Monument, you can enjoy a bird's-eye view of Vientiane from four directions, and you will feel open-minded and broad-minded. I closed my eyes, bathed in the Lao sunshine, and enjoyed the tranquility of a foreign country. A wonderful feeling arose spontaneously! The musical fountain in Patuxay Park was built with aid from China, with the construction period from June 26, 2020, to February 25, 2021, which shows the speed of China. At the end of the square is a sign in Lao, which shows that the square is also called Patuxay Park. In the center of the square is a colorful drum, which is not only decorative but also symbolizes the Lao people's historic victory and desire for peace. The old tree on the side of the square looks like it has been through a lot, as if it is telling us about the history of Laos. The striking building across the street from the Patuxay Monument is the Lao Prime Minister's Office. In the morning, when there were no vehicles passing by, I stood by the roadside and took a photo that I was satisfied with. Parking is not allowed near the Presidential Palace, so we had to view it from the car.
