2024 Huzhou Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Huzhou is located in the north of Zhejiang Province on the south bank of Lake Taihu across from Wuxi in Jiangxi and Lake Ge in Suzhou. This has been a tranquil land since ancient times. The famous silk and Huzhou brushes come from here, and it also has a long history of tea culture. Modern downtown Huzhou isn’t very big. The area of Hongqi Road and Jiangnan Industry and Trade Street are the most bustling areas, while the landscape of the coastal area of Lake Nantai on the city's north side are majestic and good for the whole family to go for a self-guided driving tour. The scenery around Huzhou is even more alluring. The Jiangnan mansions in the ancient town of Nanxun, the artistic guesthouses at Mogan Mountain, the great bamboo sea in Anji, and the ten mile stretch of ginkgo at Changxing which is splendid in the autumn are enough make you forget to want to return home in your enjoyment.

💖Today, I want to recommend a place that I love—Nanxun Ancient Town🎈.
🎀After visiting many ancient towns, Nanxun Ancient Town is like a shining pearl, emitting a unique and charming light. Compared with the hustle and bustle of Wuzhen, the quiet and simple atmosphere of Nanxun Ancient Town deeply attracts me. There is no excessive commercial noise here, only the strong historical flavor and the fireworks of life.😌
🌟The history of Nanxun Ancient Town can be traced back to the Chunyou period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1252), and it has a history of more than 700 years. It used to be a famous silk town in the south of the Yangtze River. It was rich in the long years, and countless legendary business stories were staged here. When you walk on the stone road of the ancient town, you seem to be able to travel through time and space, hear the busy footsteps of silk merchants in the past, and see their cargo ships slowly shuttling in the river. Each ancient building and each narrow alley bears the glory and glory of the past 700 years.📜
🌼The architectural style of Nanxun Ancient Town is unique. It has the beauty of the southern water town. The traditional houses with white walls and black tiles are arranged in a row on both sides of the river. The river flows slowly, reflecting the ancient buildings, just like a beautiful ink painting. At the same time, it also incorporates the unique charm of the combination of Chinese and Western styles. Those European-style buildings, exquisite carvings, and tall pillars all show the superb skills of the craftsmen at that time.😍
🌸Attraction sharing:💧Xiaolianzhuang is definitely a dazzling pearl in Nanxun Ancient Town. As soon as you enter Xiaolianzhuang, a pond of lotus flowers comes into view. The pink lotus flowers are particularly delicate and charming against the green leaves. The breeze blows, and the fragrance is refreshing. The pavilions, terraces and pavilions in the village are full of poetry.
📙Jiaye Hall Bookstore is a cultural treasure. Stepping into the bookstore, the strong cultural atmosphere is overwhelming. Ancient books carry historical memories and wisdom inheritance.
🏠Zhang Shiming's old house is spectacular. The mansion is magnificent and the architecture is exquisite. Brick carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings are amazing.👏
✨Baijianlou is built along the river and is a unique landscape of Nanxun Ancient Town. The continuous ancient buildings, green tiles and white walls are reflected in the water, which is beautiful.🌅

(Zhejiang Traveler's warm reminder: When traveling in plum rain weather, the ground is slippery, please pay attention to safety and keep an eye on weather changes.)
🌧️Anji·KE GAMER Exotic Luxury Villa
The continuous misty rain makes the whole Jiangnan seem to be in a haze, with the atmosphere of little bridges and flowing water everywhere. But in Anji, this villa sketches out the hazy rain with an entire hillside, with a strong exotic atmosphere, making one feel as if they are in Norway! Log cabins, black tiles, quiet and serene, opening your eyes to a view full of greenery, the sound of the stream, the air moist and fresh, sleeping here is just too comfortable.
🌧️Hangzhou·Lingyin Temple
Lingyin Temple is even more quiet on rainy days, with mountains and lakes shrouded in layers of mist, and the rain makes the forests look greener. The temple is simple and full of Zen, with lush greenery, hidden in the city like a piece of natural wilderness. Leaning on the railing to listen to the rain is a unique pleasure. (Rain photography tip: Rain reflects light, and a darker background is needed to capture it clearly.)

To highlight the word 'run' (moist), the biggest highlight of the pavilion is the green screens, which are inlaid with Longquan celadon of varying shades, creating an atmosphere of 'just this green', as if one is in a dreamy Jiangnan landscape painting. On rainy days, as the rain falls in different places, the full screen of green shows different shades of light and dark, very photogenic!

Weekend Exploration: Misty Rain in Jiangnan, Encounter with the Ancient Town of Nanxun🍃
I chose a spontaneous short trip, with the charming Nanxun Ancient Town as my destination. On Friday evening, I boarded the train to Huzhou, filled with anticipation.
📍First Impressions of Huzhou
I arrived in Huzhou at six o'clock on Friday night. I first explored Xiaoxi Street and Yishang Street, but the somewhat bland streetscapes and crowded snack streets left me a bit disappointed. 😔 The food at Zhou Sheng Ji was not to my taste, and while the Pangu Pig's Trotters were passable, the overall experience was mediocre. 🍜 If time allowed, I might recommend you to visit the Fisherman's Wharf and Taihu Ancient Town to experience the charm of Huzhou's night.
📍Nanxun Ancient Town: Serenity in Time
Early Saturday morning, I took a rideshare to the long-awaited Nanxun Ancient Town. The takeaway breakfast of Zifan rice balls was a delightful surprise, tasty and satisfying. 🍙 Then, I headed straight to the makeup shop 'Bridge Side Girl' and transformed into a woman with flowers in her hair. Although the makeup process was assembly-line style, the effect was decent enough to immerse me in the charm of the ancient town.
The Longfeng Noodle House in the ancient town was bustling, but I opted for a simple roadside snack, the sweet aroma of Shuangjiao noodles gave me a taste of the unique Jiangsu and Zhejiang flavors. 🍜 In the afternoon, I enjoyed tea and the view at Chunlan Tea House, where the three-course tea and Dingsheng cake allowed me to feel the tranquility and harmony of the ancient town. 🍵 The warmth and kindness of the grandfatherly figure made me feel even more at home.
📸Baijianlou: The Quiet Beauty of the Ancient Town
Baijianlou is a residential area of the ancient town, quiet and beautiful. I strolled along the river, taking photos as I walked, soaking in the ancient town's charm. 📷 There were tea houses and restaurants by the river, and I chose Aunt Yang's place, where a corner seat allowed me to capture the beautiful view of the bridge. 🌉 The stir-fried dishes for dinner were tasty, making me take a second look at the town's cuisine.
As night fell, the ancient town lit up, and I returned to my hotel early to rest, looking forward to the next morning's scenery. 🏨
🌅The Ancient Town in the Morning: A Scroll of Ink Painting
On Saturday morning, I got up early and walked the streets of the ancient town. The town is most beautiful around five or six o'clock, with the first light of dawn piercing through the mist, a delightful surprise. 🌅 The ancient town seemed like a scroll of ink painting, with the lake as calm as a mirror, reflecting the ancient and weathered houses, as if time had stood still here.
Along the way, I entered the hard-to-find coffee shop, where the aroma of coffee and the interior decor made me linger. The taste of the rice-scented latte was unforgettable, and I even asked the owner for the recipe afterward. ☕
As the sun rose, the number of tourists in the ancient town gradually increased. I wandered around, feeling the hustle and bustle of the ancient town. After lunch, I boarded the return train with a heart full of memories and some delicious pastries. 🚄
This trip to Nanxun allowed me to experience the charm of the Jiangnan water towns and the quiet beauty of the ancient town. Although I had some hesitations before, I truly feel it was worth the visit. 💖 I will come back to experience Nanxun in different seasons and feel its unique charm. 🌸

The natural oxygen bar Moganshan | B&B recommendation Huzhou·Moganshan Binlin City Designer B&B

If you ask where Jiangnan is, follow the path south to Nanxun
In the early summer, the ancient town of Nanxun is like an ink painting, serene and content. The tranquility of the old town and the sediment of time make one feel as if they have traveled through time and space, back to that pure era.
Let's hold hands and go to the ancient town of Nanxun, following the winding rivers, wandering through the ancient Baijian Building, with its simple white walls and green tiles, weeping willows and fresh flowers, small bridges over flowing water, and hand-rowed boats... The intoxicating lifestyle of the Jiangnan water towns hits you in the face!
Nanxun impression is first and foremost the charm of the water towns, but the 'air of wealth' is particularly strong. It is from these famous historical residences, private gardens, and legends of the wealthy that one feels the 'richness'. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, when most of the Chinese commoners were still worrying about food, the people of Nanxun had already emerged as a wealthy group known as 'four elephants, eight oxen, and seventy-two golden dogs', who took their business beyond the country's borders and began to participate in and influence politics. Thus, the rich became richer, generation after generation, producing a lineage of elites.

Not New Zealand, but Zhejiang! A fairy tale world filled with hydrangea flowers!
Really, it's not New Zealand.
I'm in Huzhou, where I've discovered a real-life version of Hobbiton✨
Colorful little houses covered in hydrangeas.
Goats running freely on the grasslands.
Mountainsides blanketed with alpine rhododendrons.
What kind of fairy tale world is this?!🤔
-
▪️Hobbiton
Colorful little houses, a riot of hydrangea colors.
It's just like a fairy tale world from Hayao Miyazaki.
Dress code suggestion: white tones, and wearing a straw hat adds to the atmosphere.
-
▪️Alpine Meadow
Flocks of sheep on the green grasslands, they are real, not photoshopped🐑
The little sheep are really cute, and you can get up close.

If you still don't know where to go for the May Day holiday,

Moganshan Panoramic Glass Bamboo Sea B&B|Dream Back to a Century-old Mountain House
🟤Honor tag
▪️Originally it was a typical old three-hey courtyard house in Jiangnan in the 1960s and 1970s.

⚫️Hotel introduction
▪️Architecture 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻
The B&B is located in Maowu Village, Daixi Town, Huzhou City. It is built on the mountain and surrounded by bamboo forests. Going north from the entrance of the B&B is the famous local Tianzi Ancient Road; the mountain stream winds down along the ancient road and intersects in front of the B&B. A triangular open space, with two huge beech trees in one corner, with lush branches
-
The owner carefully restored the typical three-heyuan courtyard in the south of the Yangtze River in the 1960s and 1970s, and then combined it with the new architecture of traditional blank design. It is a collision and fusion of the ancient and the new. The entire B&B also uses the "bamboo" element to the extreme and is continuously deepened in various ways; the traditional feeling of "living in bamboo" spreads crazily in the venue
-
The public area seems to have a warm atmosphere like visiting my grandma's house when I was a child. The traces of the old stove and the mottled rammed earth walls vaguely piece together a picture of a simple life.
-
▪️Guest room 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻
There are 12 guest rooms in Binlin City with different layouts. Each one is surrounded by a lush and lush bamboo sea, with 270° floor-to-ceiling windows facing the 3D bamboo sea. Fully intelligent automatic curtains and sliding courtyard doors are everywhere carefully prepared for the owner of the room. Create a clean and transparent visual space
-
The entire interior adopts fresh milk tea colors and is embellished with special local bamboo elements, adding a sense of agility to the space. Plain furniture, muji-style soft bedding, wardrobes made of bamboo and rattan, and the touchable natural wood and stone textures make people feel particularly peaceful.
-
The B&B also carefully brought the clear and warm spring water and green window views from the mountains, just to allow you to use more angles to intimately absorb the refreshing greenery of the Bamboo Sea Forest.

Bamboo Sea Private Hot Spring in the Mountains – Workers really need healing
I booked a spontaneous trip the day before and came to Moganshan to breathe in some oxygen, and it truly healed me.
The majority of the rooms in this homestay are surrounded by bamboo, which is incredibly beautiful.
I didn't choose a room with its own hot spring because I wanted to soak in the private hot spring on the top floor.
Private Hot Spring: After booking the homestay, the butler contacts you the day before according to the reserved time to book the private hot spring. I don't recommend booking it after 1 pm as the sunlight can be very glaring.
Dinner: The homestay offers set meals for 300 and 400, and they send the menu the day before for you to choose from. Every dish is delicious, and I heard the girls next door praising the chef's skills.
In the evening, there are movies, KTV, roasted sweet potatoes, and fairy sticks.
The roasted sweet potatoes taste so good.
In the afternoon, you can also gather around the stove to brew tea. It was too hot to do so, but spending a day leisurely at the homestay is not boring at all.

I'd rather go to these few ancient towns with fireworks than to Wuzhen in the Year of the Dragon
Strongly recommend saving this list for a long holiday visit to an ancient town!
1️⃣ Among the many ancient towns in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, if I could only visit one during the New Year, it would definitely be Nanxun. This ancient town, only a half-hour drive from Wuzhen, is connected to the residential area, so there are locals living in the town, giving it a lively, authentic atmosphere. In addition to wandering around the bridges and flowing water, there are several Republic of China-era buildings 🏠 worth visiting, such as the Liu's Ladder Shop, Zhang Shiming's Old Residence, and Jiaye Library.
It is recommended to drive there; there is a bus from Huzhou High-speed Railway Station, and it's even more convenient from Wuzhen, where you can hitch a ride.
2️⃣ When the scent of Anchang soy sauce duck begins to waft through the air, you know the New Year is here! People from Hangzhou rush to buy cured meat and soy sauce duck, all made with local Anchang soy sauce. This is an ancient town that even the locals from Shaoxing visit. I went there on the third day of last year's New Year, and there were still parking spots nearby. It was lively but not too crowded.
It's very close to Hangzhou, friendly for drivers, and can also be reached by subway 🚇 to the Textile City, then transfer to a direct bus. Over the years, it has not become overly commercialized. Sitting in a street-side tea house, watching the black-awning boats slowly pass by, that's the true essence of an ancient town.
3️⃣ The ancient village of Linkeng in Yongjia, Wenzhou, is located in Huangnan Township. It is recommended to drive there. The ancient village with its characteristic southern Zhejiang style and red lanterns hanging everywhere feels like a hidden paradise. Compared to Wuyuan, it's smaller and more exquisite, with more distinctive features. Linkeng was established during the Ming Dynasty as a settlement for the Mao clan and has a history of over 700 years. The architecture is a typical style of the southern Zhejiang mountainous area.
4️⃣ Longmen Ancient Town, about 1 hour from Hangzhou city center, is a lesser-known ancient village famous for being inhabited mostly by descendants of Sun Quan. Due to convenient transportation, many people from Hangzhou visit Longmen Ancient Town on the first day of the New Year to enjoy the town's specialty, pounded rice cake.
Longmen Ancient Town is located in Fuyang, and it's very convenient to drive there, only 1 hour. High-speed rail is also 🚄 convenient; from Fuyang Station, you can hitch a ride for about 35 yuan, or there are 🚌 buses that go directly to the ancient town from the station.
5️⃣ Zhouzhuang is connected by ancient bridges and rivers, linking old streets and Ming and Qing dynasty residences. As I stroll through the cobblestone alleys, between the black tiles and white walls, it feels as if time has stood still. Compared to Wuzhen, I prefer the remaining authentic atmosphere here.
In the early morning, wander leisurely through the ancient town, feeling the tranquility of the 'small bridges and flowing waters'. Or visit the ancient residences, such as Zhang Hall, Shen Hall, and Shen Sanwan's underwater tomb, all well-preserved Ming and Qing dwellings. If you're tired, you can visit the teahouse once frequented by the writer San Mao.
Tell me, which ancient town do you plan to visit this New Year to experience the festive atmosphere?

I've searched high and low, and still, Huzhou's Nanxun is the most charming!
Saturday self-drive day trip from Shanghai, here comes the Nanxun ancient town guide! 🚗
The journey is only an hour and a half, and there are free parking spaces near the scenic area 🅿, and today there aren't many people, so parking is very convenient.
🎫 Admission to the scenic area is free, but some attractions require a separate ticket. It is recommended to get a map of the scenic area 🗺, plan ahead, and mark the places you want to visit to avoid unnecessary detours.
🕌 The most impressive attraction is the 'Jili Lake Silk House', which has handcrafted exquisite models 🎁, showing the entire process from sericulture to weaving. I raised silkworms at home when I was a child, and these familiar scenes are full of memories for me.
The architecture in the Jiangnan area is unique, with small bridges over flowing water, whitewashed walls with black tiles, mottled walls, and wooden buildings, all telling the romance of Jiangnan 🎶.
🍱 For dining, you can pick any roadside stir-fry restaurant, highly recommend the Dongpo pork, the taste is amazing! As for snacks, there's no special place to check in, just eat wherever you go, the snacks at each scenic spot are more or less the same.
💡 After dark, the lights of the ancient town are lit up, and the view is incomparably beautiful! Sitting in a rowing boat, enjoying the scenery on both sides of the river, is truly relaxing! 🚣
We arrived at 11 o'clock and finished strolling around at 7 in the evening, with a long break at a coffee shop in between. The beauty of Jiangnan is a sight at every step, and if you're not in a hurry, you can stroll for a long time! 🌳
