Mountain City Ipoh, the beauty of a tranquil small town
The first time you hear about Ipoh, it might be because of Michelle Yeoh.
Getting to know Ipoh again might be because of 'Anna and the King.'
This time, I finally came to this mountain city in Malaysia. Although it is not large, it has a very comfortable atmosphere, tranquil and serene.
Transportation:
There are direct buses from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, about a 3-hour drive.
The travel time from Ipoh to Penang is about 2 hours by car.
Finally arriving in Ipoh, I feel the charm of this mountain city. It is the fourth largest city in Malaysia, but it still has a tranquil feeling.
Must-visit spots:
Ipoh Railway Station:
Known as the 'Taj Mahal of Malaysia,' this railway station is a European-style building with white exterior walls. The historical architecture is part of Ipoh's memory.
The Ipoh City Council building across the street is also worth a visit.
Concubine Lane and Second Concubine Lane:
The Chinese community in Ipoh used to live here, and now it has become a very artistic neighborhood.
You can find many murals here, from white coffee to paper airplanes, which have now become symbols of Ipoh.
There are many traditional snacks here, from egg tarts to pastries, and traditional tofu pudding, all of which are must-try delicacies.
Ipoh Cuisine:
The most famous is Bean Sprout Chicken,
Bean Sprout Chicken is somewhat similar to Hainanese chicken rice, with tender chicken and locally grown bean sprouts that are plump, crisp, and juicy.
You can also have a bowl of chicken soup rice noodles, with soft and smooth rice noodles absorbing the sweet chicken soup, very delicious.
(This time I ate at Wong Kee, a very famous local restaurant, and it did not disappoint.)
White Coffee:
Ipoh's most famous delicacy, white coffee is made in a way that it has no bitter or astringent taste, very fragrant and smooth.
tips:
1. Transportation in Ipoh city mainly relies on taxis.
2. This visit to Ipoh was quite rushed; there are other attractions that I didn't have time to visit. It is recommended to spend 1 to 2 days touring Ipoh.
3. There are many Chinese residents in the local area, and you can basically communicate in Chinese.

Discover Ipoh Old Town 🇲🇾📜
#malaysiatrip
Ipoh is known to be the third-largest city in the nation. And this city is always known for its historical place, vintage place, etc. I really loves the vibes of this town, less people come to this city, so this place is good for you who want to chill and relax.
This time i visited Ipoh Old Town and i can definitely confirm that Ipoh old town is the new George Town because of this city also has so many murals. You can come to this Old Town in the morning til the evening, not in the night cause many restaurant and places are closed after 6PM. So, don’t forget to check the time before you come here.

Good place to be near nature. It is quiet and peaceful. Also the staffs are very friendly & helpful. Nice environment for those who want to stay out from busy city.
The rooms were great, best part was being surrounded by a tropical rainforest valley with wild life. Felt very comfortable. Would reccomend and will definitely need to come back again and explore the caves and local adventure tours!

The Story Eatery | Marketplace
Well decorated and beautiful eatery. It is definitely an excellent place for people who are searching for an instagrammable place. Staff were very polite and attentive. Great services.
Came here only for coffees and some snacks. Ordered the latte and truffle fries. Latte was not bad, a bit too watered-down in my opinion. Truffle fries were good.
Will try to come here for the lunch/dinner dishes next time.

This is one of the many cafes that sprouted out. As far as the decor goes, I enjoyed the ambience. Relaxing and comfortable. Most importantly, it's cold inside to escape from the heat.
The food is average but acceptable. In the end it's a good place to meet up with friends and to escape the heat. Perfect ice cream and drinks, but matcha latte was too strong for me, anyway recommend this place to all.

Do come early as parking is limited, in addition there is a fee required for entrance.

Firewood Pizza - Try it out! 😍
#wheretogo
Address:
📍 Ipoh Pizza Kayu Api, 31650, Lahat, Perak
(Near to Jalan Simpang Pulai, Ipoh)
Hello, pizza lover! 👋🏻 🍕
You should try this out! Have you ever heard about this place before? No? Okay, no worries! Just plan your next trip and have a visit here.
What so special about this place? Alright, this is probably one of the most unique place I have been to. Why? Because, this is my first time try Pizza Kayu Api. Kayu Api means, ‘firewood’. This pizza has been cooked by firewood and of course the taste is quite difficult from others pizza that we had before.
They have variety choices for the pizza’s menu. But, the most popular is Super Extra Cheese Topping. And, for drinks, if you’re coffee lover, you should try Kopi Arang Premium. It’s tastes super good!
Tip:
📌 Do not come on Tuesday😂 They’re close.
📌 Open at 4pm till 10.30pm.

Hakka Wedding vibes in Ipoh
#weekendgetaways The store didn't spend too much time with its name, the Hakka Restaurant in Ipoh is one of the few Hakka food places that I have actually ever tried.
The restaurant is all decked out in red, for those that do know know might think the theme of the restaurant is either Christmas or Chinese New year, but it is actually decked out in traditional chinese wedding style decor.
From celebratory red papers to gift basket, this really looked like a home for a newly wedded chinese couple.
We ordered the Hakka style fried beancurd, chicken soup and minced meat eggplant, I found the beancurd to be one of the most unique and if that is something that I would come back for, it would be that!

cave kek lok
I've been to this cave before it was built. It used to be a shortcut for villagers to get to their farm. Even though it's still breathtaking with the temple built in it but yet I felt it lost that pure and virginity of nature that's untouched. Plus, with lots of tourists coming and going, the place feels more for commercial. The view of the surrounding mountains used to be full and beautiful, but now the mountain is half gone due to commercial marble industries' demand.

Kellie's Castle ✨
Beautiful castle in perak where you should not missed. Best if you have studied the history with more understanding before you go. Although it is also famous with haunted house, but its worth to pay a visit.
There are many spots around here that you can take beautiful pictures. Go either early morning or late noon to avoid the heat.
The view from top of the castle is really beautiful too. There’s a river and a lot of trees surrounding the castle which makes it more mesmerizing.
Definitely the most visited place when you are in Perak and a nice spot for photoshoot! Really recommended ❤️

An Abandoned Castle in Malaysia
About 20 km from Ipoh city center, there is a beautiful abandoned castle. It was built by a Scottish planter, named William Kellie-Smith. The castle has four floored building. But during the construction in 1926, William Kellie-Smith died of penumonia and the castle was never completed and left abandoned. Now, Kellie's Castle has become one of favorite tourist attraction. Getting there is abit tricky. There is no public transportation to the castle. So the only transportation you can find is online taxi booking or maybe you can also rent a car. The entrance fee is RM 15 for foreigners. Oh, did I mention that on the second floor, there's a ghost cloister balcony? Yup, a lot of people said that it's a haunted castle. There is a story of an Europian couple from Canada who came here to photograph nocturnal creatures, and the woman saw a man standing, looking out the window. Aside from some spooky stories, this castle is hard to resist. The view is so beautiful. So, are you still wanted to go to this castle?
