2024 Nusa Penida Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
The breathtaking sights of Nusa Penida
#100waysoftravel
Nusa Penida is the little gem of Bali. You can expect white-sand beaches with silky blue water, 200-meter high coastal cliffs drop, and yet untouched nature
Kelingking beach is 100% sure the most spectacular place on Nusa Penida. White sand and a piece of land shaped like a dinosaur head. The view from the top is incredible but be prepared if you want to hike down to the beach. This hike down is a 45-minute incredibly steep path.
Diamond Beach, is also famous for its incredible natural scenery with clean white sands, transparent turquoise waters, and high cliffs. The key feature here would be the rock shaped like a diamond in the shallow waters. After all, I think this diamond-like rock is what gives the beach its name.
We got here on a day trip from Seminyak… and it was an amazing and memorable trip for sure…

🇮🇩 Why you MUST visit Nusa Penida if you come Bali
#islandtours
Nusa Penida, a rugged island located off the southeast coast of Bali, offers travelers a blend of breathtaking landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and crystal-clear waters. Less developed and more serene than its famous neighbor, Bali, Nusa Penida is a haven for adventurers and nature lovers alike.
Spectacular Natural Beauty
The island's most iconic sights include Kelingking Beach, with its T-Rex shaped cliff face and stunning turquoise waters below, and the mystical Broken Beach (Pasih Uug), known for its natural archway and tidal pool. The Angel's Billabong, an inviting natural infinity pool, and the panoramic views from Atuh Beach are other must-visit destinations that showcase the island's dramatic coastline.
Adventure and Exploration
Nusa Penida is also a hotspot for snorkeling and diving, with sites like Manta Point where divers can swim with the gentle manta rays. The island’s rugged terrain provides excellent opportunities for trekking and exploring its diverse landscapes, from lush forests to arid regions.
Visitor Tips & Itinerary Suggestion
- Day 1: West Coast Wonders
- Morning: Start early with a visit to Kelingking Beach to avoid crowds and experience the breathtaking view. Descend to the beach if you’re up for a challenging hike.
- Afternoon: Head to Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach to explore these natural wonders and enjoy a scenic lunch.
- Evening: Relax at Crystal Bay with a sunset view, perfect for winding down after a day of adventure.
- Day 2: Eastern Exploration
- Morning: Drive to Atuh Beach for sunrise and enjoy a quiet morning at one of the island’s most beautiful spots.
- Afternoon: Visit Diamond Beach and climb down the newly carved stairs to the white sand beach below, surrounded by stunning rock formations.
- Evening: Return to your accommodation and perhaps explore local dining options in the nearby villages.
Preparation and Practical Advice
- Transport: Renting a scooter is the most flexible way to explore the island, but be cautious as roads can be rough. For those less confident on two wheels, hiring a local driver is advisable.
- Accommodation: Stay overnight to fully experience what Nusa Penida has to offer. Accommodations range from basic homestays to more comfortable resorts.
- Travel Essentials: Bring sturdy shoes for hiking, plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat as the island terrain can be demanding and hot during the day.
- Conservation: Respect the natural environment. Take all trash back with you and avoid disturbing wildlife.
Conclusion
Nusa Penida is a spectacular destination that promises adventure and awe-inspiring natural beauty. Its less commercialized vibe allows for a more authentic experience of what many consider the real spirit of island exploration in Indonesia.

What to do in Bali: Nusa Penida edition
[Nusa Penida edition] 🏝️☀️
A small island with a thousand paradise beauties: Nusa Penida, an island located southeast of Bali. To get to this island, you can take a fast boat from Sanur port which takes around 45-60 minutes. Once there you can rent a motorbike (backpacker style) or use the services of a tour guide.
Photo 1-2: Diamond beach
Located at the eastern tip of the island, to play in the water at this beach you need a little energy because access to the beach is down a cliff. Even so, the energy you spend will be paid off by the extraordinary views.
Photo 3-4: Kelingking Beach
Nusa Penida's iconic beach. You haven't been to Nusa Penida if you haven't been to this beach. The view is truly amazing, green plants meet the blue expanse of the ocean.
Photo 5-6: Broken Beach
This place is in the same area as Angel's Billabong. There are many sellers in this place, if you are tired enough you can buy a refreshing drink.
Photo 7: Staying in a Cottage on the coast
If you spend the night on this island, make sure you stay on the coast, because around it there are many cozy cafes to enjoy the beach.

Wonders of West Nusa Penida
To get here, I booked a tour that has hotel transfer from Bali.
📍Kelingking Beach is famous for its unique rock formation that resembles the backbone of a T-Rex.
📍Angel's Billabong is a natural infinity pool facing the Indian ocean. Swimming is now prohibited.
📍Broken Beach is so named because a portion of the cliff has collapsed, creating a circular shape. Water flows through an arch that overlooks the sea, creating a circular bay.

We took fast boat from Bali island to Nusa penida. Then a driver picked us up from the port to tour around for a day. For one day trip, we could only choose whether to tour on east or west area as the timing is tight and we have to go back to the port before sunset.
We paid IDR 500.000 / pax for one day trip to nusa penida and managed to visit 4-5 famous spots

It was a pleasure embarking on a trip to Nusa Pineda with Bali Sun Tours, and simply, it was fantastic.
From the moment we left, the team ensured we had everything we needed for a fun trip. The trip was organized like no other, and the crew’s knowledge of the locations we visited was really impressive.
Snorkeling around the island was a particularly prominent landmark. The underwater scenes were a marvel to look at with the vibrant coral reefs teeming with water life. The equipment provided was top-notch and the evidence ensured that even we were less experienced to feel safe and comfortable.
The sightseeing tour was equally delightful. We had the opportunity to see the stunning landscape and learn about the unique culture and history of Nusa Pineda. The tour was going perfectly, allowing us to snage into the stunning scenery without feeling rushing.
In addition, the staff were polite and friendly, and went to great lengths
Whether it’s snorkelling, sightseeing or just exploring this beautiful island, you’ll be in excellent hands with Bali Suns Tours. The memories I made on this journey are the ones I will cherish forever. Really, a 5 star experience!
I fell in love with this island while I was there last week. Breathtaking landscapes and motorcycle road rides that are struck by the island’s splendor is another. We stayed two nights there and I'm very glad I did this instead of a day trip, I knew from what I saw and read that I would love it, so I decided to stay for two nights. I wish I stayed more, when I get back to Bali I will definitely stay longer in Nusa Pineda. It’s a magical island
Diamond Beach 🐚
Diamond beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida island. It is definitely a must visit spot to explore in your trip to Bali.
The place is stunning and magical with breathtaking views. It is a perfect spot to relax, take photos and enjoy the nature.
Unfortunately, the beach is not made for swimming or snorkelling. The current is quite dangerous and waves are big, so be careful.
It is possible to reach the beach by motorbike or car and there is a parking at the entrance.

Penida Island West Tour for One Day
Wake up at 5:30am and go on a one-day tour to the west side of Nusa Penida.
After a whole day of rushing around, being exposed to the sun, clocking in and taking photos on the assembly line, I really feel that such beautiful scenery should be enjoyed slowly while drinking coffee/afternoon tea/sunbathing/eating/soaking in a hotel, instead of only being able to see each attraction for one or two seconds and the tour guide asking "are you done?" right after taking the photo. Then most of the time during the whole trip is spent on a motorcycle/boat/minivan.
The scenery is indeed beautiful, but I still cancelled all the similar day trips afterwards.
If you have time and conditions, it is recommended to stay on the island for one or two days and play slowly.

Getting to Paradise on Earth: Nusa Penida
#2023travelwish
Pristine beaches, cliffs and clear waters.. this paradise on earth is just 25km from the main Bali island! Nusa Penida is known for its instagrammable spots, manta rays, and treks. Here's a quick guide on getting to Nusa Penida from Bali:
Transport:
The only way to Nusa Penida is by fastboat. The journey will take 45 minutes each way, and boats depart from Sanur Harbour. There are various companies/timings, but a majority depart at 0730/0830 and return at 1530/1630.
Ticket Info & Cost:
IDR150.000 per person/one way. The price will vary if you book a tour package. Most travellers either book tickets through their drivers, or show up at the harbour and buy directly at the counters.
Tourist fee is IDR25.000 adults and IDR15.000 children.
Experience:
Sanur Harbour was opened this year, so it's comfortable. The fastboat ride was fine. However, arriving at Nusa Penida will require you to walk through sand/water up the beach. The island is rustic and underdeveloped, so the rides are bumpy, narrow and a bit dangerous. But, the sites and views were worth everything. Look at the pictures! You MUST see them in person.
Highlights:
Kelingking Beach (separate post), Crystal Bay, Broken Beach, Diamond Beach
2023 travel wish! Hoping to visit the Great Barrier Reef! Have never been there before and it looks amazing.

Try to get there!
Hey travelers,
Nusa Penida is a very beautiful island, and this well-known picturesque beach - the famous one - is the most common destination that tourists visit, of course. But have you ever heard that to get to the beach can be quite a challenge! The path down is a steep slope with sort of natural stairs, and you will have a great workout while getting to the beach and back. However, it’s worth it ! Harsh way guarantees that the beach will not be overcrowded and only few people will be around. Nature over there is super awesome, the ocean is beautiful, swimming is refreshing, time flies lol. Enjoy the beach, enjoy your life! GO TRAVELING !
DAY TRIP TO NUSA PENIDA
Embarking on an unforgettable adventure to Nusa Penida! 🚤🌴 We caught the 8AM ferry, soaking in the early morning sea breeze, and upon arrival, booked a private driver to explore the island's hidden gems. Nusa Penida Adventures: A Family Journey into Bali’s Scenic Beauty
#familytravel
During my recent family trip to Bali, we explored some of the most stunning natural spots on Nusa Penida—each one felt like stepping into a beautiful, open-air national park, offering both adventure and tranquility.
1. Kelingking Beach
Nature’s very own masterpiece! The iconic cliffs here resemble a giant T-Rex, creating a jaw-dropping view against the crystal-clear blue ocean. While we couldn’t climb down to the beach, simply taking in the panoramic scenery made us feel like we’d stumbled upon a hidden corner of paradise. Perfect for families looking to enjoy breathtaking views and snap some unforgettable photos.
2. Angel's Billabong
A magical tidal pool carved naturally into the rocks, Angel’s Billabong is a true gem. The clear, calm water and surrounding cliffs create a serene setting, ideal for families to admire the creativity of nature. Watching the waves crash just beyond the pool reminded us how both peaceful and powerful the ocean can be.
3. Broken Beach
This spot is a natural wonder! A stunning archway, formed over time by the waves, connects the ocean to a tranquil lagoon. It’s not just a beach—it’s like a natural sculpture park created by the Earth itself. The beauty and calmness here make it a perfect stop for families who want to soak in nature’s artistry.
Exploring Nusa Penida felt like discovering a living national park—full of beauty, peace, and adventure. Whether you're traveling with kids or exploring with loved ones, these incredible spots are a must-visit for any nature-loving family.
