Lake Matheson
Lake Matheson was formed by the separation of the Fox Glacier, which is surrounded by forested mountains. The still water of the lake creates a perfect mirror reflection. Tourists often visit to experience the natural beauty, and if lucky, on a clear day, they can see the reflection of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman in the water, known as Mirror Lake, which is often featured on New Zealand postcards. The walking trail to Lake Matheson passes through various trees with informational signs about the natural environment, and along the way, you can also see the peaks of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.
