Shanghai Hotel | Artistic Atmosphere, 'Not Deliberate' is a High Threshold
I'm currently in Shanghai, taking advantage of the upcoming National Day holiday, I'd like to share a few of my favorite Shanghai hotels with you, and try to explore from various angles what a hotel has to offer beyond beds and meals that are worth your attention and appreciation.
The one today, it has a universal Shanghai temperament, small and exquisite, big and blank, subtle and skin-deep, with casual details to find, and a light and relaxed immersive experience. Sukhothai Shanghai, let's start with its artistic atmosphere today.
Like my personality, in looking at the artistic atmosphere of a hotel, I despise the forced and oppressive visual display, which I call 'Artistic Cultivation PUA', so I always believe that in creating an artistic atmosphere, 'not deliberate' is the high threshold, which is the real test of the artistic cultivation of the hotel owner and designer, not just the pursuit of the value of art, and then sincerely afraid that the audience will not understand or appreciate.
Sukhothai Shanghai is already in the threshold, the first visual impression of the hotel is relaxed, your physical feeling is even light, art and environment complement each other, there is not a bit of abruptness in space, or abruptness in visual information, bluntly, the hotel makes people feel comfortable! Of course, it's necessary to mention the industry big shot who designed the hotel, such as Neri&Hu. The texture of the hotel is the lining of natural materials, whether it's the ubiquitous metal copper, raw wood and cement color, or the earthy color furniture, all you see is finding the middle ground in design and nature, and the display of artworks mostly chooses the warm color gradually warm visual, grass green into warm yellow, deep purple gradually bright red, people in such an environment, focused but not tense, relaxed and filled with pleasure. Simply put, the hotel's environment and artistic atmosphere have no gap with you, you don't have to be the 'Duan Fei' who counts bricks, just naturally integrate into it, whether you appreciate it or not, it has a close relationship with you.
I recommend two pieces of art display in the hotel. One is, the interactive digital art work created by the Japanese teamlab team next to the lobby front desk, it's called 'Four Seasons Millennium Map - Tian Ran Zhuang' (Figures 2, 8), it depicts the Tian Ran Zhuang that has been inherited since the 11th century, we won't mention its color, content and composition for now, it has a point, the dynamic weather under this work changes according to the real-time weather of Tian Ran Zhuang, that is, digital landscape sketching. It's also the most easily overlooked and underestimated by everyone, interested friends can pay attention to it.
The second work is 'Pingshui. Shushi' (Figures 4, 6, 14) in the lobby elevator, it has a mirror moon water moon's noise and silence in the dimly lit elevator, the nearby raindrop-like glass texture has a mysterious and sometimes near and sometimes far cosmic visual. When you're in a hurry, it's easy to overlook it.
As a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), Sukhothai Shanghai lives up to its identity in terms of artistic atmosphere, the natural and casual texture makes people feel comfortable and satisfied inadvertently, and there are plenty of reasons to stop and stay.
