China never stops to amaze me. As a foreigner living many years in China I have also travelled around a lot and I still keep finding this country extremely interesting. We rented a Chinese car brand called Tank at the airport in Kunming and drove to Shangri-La. It was my first trip to this part of Yunnan. Beautiful place that we will probably come back to. Lovely architecture, people, food and nature and then some Tibetan culture. Some of the highlights below: 🏨 we just had to stay at the Shangri-La hotel when in Shangri-La. All in all it was a good experience with comfortable rooms, nice welcome gesture by the staff and even a free birthday cake on my birthday that happened to be when we were there. Walking distance to town. 🗺️ Dukezong Ancient town. Charming town with lots of coffee shops, souvenir shops, restaurants and picture taking tourists. In the evening there is dancing in the big square. Also one of the best meals we had was hotpot just by the white pagoda. 🏯Songzanlin - one of the largest temples in Yunnan also known as little Potala palace. Build by the mountain. We had a nice time walking around, definitely one of the hotspots in Shangri-La. Day 1: Journey to Shangri-La The adventure began with an early arrival at Kunming Changshui International Airport, followed by a scenic train ride to Shangri-La. I explored the stunning Yila Grassland of Napa Lake and then headed to Meili Snow Mountain which is 2-hour drive away. After checking into Deqin Xuelong Hotel, the day ended with serene mountain vibes in a chilly weather. Day 2: Mountain Sunrises & National Parks An early start allowed me to catch the breathtaking sunrise at Meili Snow Mountain. After a hearty breakfast and hotel checkout, I visited Potato National Park and later checked into Shangri-La Wild Star Homestay. The day concluded with a tour of Songzanlin Monastery, Guishan Park and a delightful dinner at Dukezong Ancient City. Day 3: On the way to Li Jiang The day began with a visit to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest and most spectacular gorges in the world. Instead of hiking, I explored the scenic area, which offered incredible viewpoints to admire the roaring Jinsha River as it thundered through the narrow canyon. The visit to Tiger Leaping Gorge marked the perfect end to my Shangri-La journey, as I embarked on a magical trip to the enchanting town of Li Jiang, where history, culture, and breathtaking scenery awaited. In spring and summer, the land blooms with lush grass and flowers, while autumn and winter bring a golden hue to the landscape. We had an unforgettable horse-riding experience on this expansive plain. The dry, sunny weather kept the ground firm and not muddy, allowing us to gallop freely and feel a rare sense of liberation. Our friendly horse guide captured many photos and videos for us, preserving these precious memories. Along the way, we stopped at a small station offering Tibetan costume dressing and archery experiences at minimal charges, adding an authentic cultural touch to our adventure. This area is also a haven for birdwatching; however, the red-crowned cranes we hoped to see only arrive in winter. Despite this, we were delighted by other birds and a beautiful white yak named "Bei Bei," whose snowy-white coat was truly captivating. This ride was more than just a physical activity—it was a soulful escape, immersing us in the pure serenity of this highland paradise.

Baishuitai (White water terrace) A land of white limestone and clear blue water amidst the surrounding green mountains, a real wonder of nature. I rented a car from Lijiang to come here because public transportation is quite difficult to find. It is a bit expensive but I have a new guide as a friend. There are horses for rent downstairs, but I asked to walk by myself. I was extremely out of breath, but when I saw the blue water layer, I forgot all about my tiredness. Upstairs, there is a path into the forest. There is a sacred well. The water in the well is so clear that it seems like some kind of magic has been applied. I recommend you come here. We get there from lijiang ancient city to shang ri la by bus which it took around 3 hours to reach there. We start our hike from naxi guesthouse and end our hike in halfway guesthouse where we stay at judy guesthouse on our first day. The first hike took around 6 hours! The view was amazing and stunning 💯 Our second day hike from halfway guesthouse and end at tina guesthouse which it took around 3 hours hike down. It was slightly raining but grateful that we make it through the end! Overall really recommend to hike at the one of the famous hiking trail in the world! 🗻💯#tigerleapinggorge #shangri-la

Traveling the road (G214/G215) around the snow-capped MeiLi mountains in Shangri-La is truly memorable. There are outstanding views around every corner, wild animals roaming free, and quiet villages to explore. The roads are winding, well kept, and a joy to drive. There isn't many cars, and lots of views points to rest, buy snacks, or use the restrooms. Driving around took about 5 hours, but it felt much quicker. If you go to Napa Lake, don't forget to stop by Heidou Cafe, a cafe located in the hotel. Before entering, the staff will let you order one drink or dessert per person. The view for taking pictures is sooo beautiful. If the sky is clear, you will see mountains, snow, and lake views. You can sit and relax and take pictures from many angles.
