Classic Cathedral
The Saint Jean Baptiste or the Lyon cathedral is a magnificent cathedral located in the heart of old town, Lyon. The train station tok is very near. That and it being free to enter did mean substatial crowds.
But don't let it being free make you think it's any less. It's huge and has your classic cathedral design with charming stained glass. Which reminds me that if you visit during the noon, you get to see these stained glasses at work as light passes through them.
But noon would most likely involve a queue to get in. The ceiling is impressive as well. The courtyard is nice too and it provides shade. Good spot to relax for a while. All in all a great stop in old town that is worthy of your time and attention.

Most Beautiful Basilica in France
I don't mean to exaggerate. Also, I haven't seen all the basilica's out there but with extensive travels across Europe and more specifically France. I have willingly and at times half heartedly ticked several churches and basilica's off my list. There are very few that stand out as the Basilica of Notre Dame in Lyon does. The only other stunning instance as such was in Vatican.
Firstly the beautiful location on the Furviere hill. You do have a funicular ride to bring you there and back. That simplifies things. The location allows for brilliant views. And it's sort of a complex with another building and and equally impressive crypt. The most eye catching part are the mosaics and paintings that have a surreal effect. There is a chapel next door too. Amongst the list of historical sights I saw, this one ranks number one for Lyon. Highly recommended!

Architectural Gem
The Saint George church of Lyon is noticeably a very unique structure in the skyline. It is best seen from the suspension bridge or from the other side of the river. It's shape and high tops stand out compared to other structures in the vicinity.
This beautifully built Neo gothic church also happens to be a listed monumnet. The church is located in the centre of Lyon in an area called as Vieux Lyon. It's got interesting architecture and some nice restaurants and bars. And no I am not recommending getting drunk after the church visit. Then again you are on a holiday.

Heart of Lyon
This public square is massive and offers a lovely view of Fourviere. There is a tourist information office and loads of parking spaces in the garade underneath. You could walk from here to the old town or make a stop here later just tk relax.
I also noticed a lot of benches around the park. There's fountains too and it's a lively place. Making it very pleasant to stop by or people watch. I got here via the metro line A. And i think it's a great spot to start your Lyon explorations. There's a washroom too behind the tourist information office. Just in case you are around and in need of one.

A park for many things
This park has a whole bunch of things. It's massive and there is so much that can be done. Best part, it was free to enter. So it is worth the effort travelling to here. As it is somewhat located outside the city. Butit offers so much from gardens, zoo, karting track, bamboos, cafe's and kiosks. A lot of people around taking a casual stroll or relaxing in shade amidst nature.
I loved the path around the lake. It's beautiful and you can circle the whole lake in an hour or so. Loved seeing animals too, there were zebras and I saw a giraffe for the first time. Such a huge and strange looking animal with a cute face. I think this was time well spent. If you have enough days for lyon and don't mind travelling to here. This will make for a pleasant experience.

Fescinating Destination
While this is no doubt one of the best museums about natural history. I was so stunned by its design. It's eye catching. The museum's location is special too. Right opposite the confluence, meeting point of the Rhone and Saone rivers. From the glass structure within you get lovely views.
The collection and exhibits are impressive, covering diverse themes such as life and death, scientific exploration, cultural exchange, and even love. The museum features a vast collection, including paleontology, zoology, and ethnography artifacts.
Temporary exhibitions add to the museum's appeal. The architecture and design was what attracted me the most. Simply put it is spectacular, a unique blend of lines and curves. This is definitely worth a visit.

First time visit in Lyon 🇫🇷
#francetrip
Just returned from a fantastic trip to Lyon, France, and it exceeded all my expectations! 🏙️🍷 Lyon is a city that perfectly blends rich history, vibrant culture, and incredible food. We started our visit in the old town, Vieux Lyon, with its narrow, winding streets and Renaissance architecture. The entrance to the impressive Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière was free, and the views of the city from the top were absolutely stunning. ⛪️🌟
We spent some time exploring the Musée des Beaux-Arts, where the €8 entrance fee gave us access to a vast collection of art spanning from ancient times to the modern era. The museum itself, housed in a former abbey, was a marvel. 🎨 After soaking up some culture, we indulged in Lyon’s renowned cuisine at a traditional bouchon. The coq au vin and local wine were delicious! 🍷🥘
In the afternoon, we strolled through the Parc de la Tête d'Or, a beautiful park with a large lake and a botanical garden—perfect for a relaxing walk. 🚶♂️🌳 We also enjoyed exploring the traboules, secret passageways between buildings that date back to the Renaissance. Lyon truly lives up to its reputation as the food capital of France, with every meal being a memorable experience. If you’re a fan of history, culture, and gourmet food, Lyon is a must-visit! #trip #Lyon #FrenchCuisine #VieuxLyon #MuseeDesBeauxArts #TravelFrance
Gier Roman Aqueduct 🇫🇷
#summerdestinations
During my summer vacation, I visited the Gier Roman Aqueduct in France, and it was a fascinating experience! 🌉🇫🇷 Located near Lyon, this ancient marvel of engineering stretches across the picturesque countryside, and seeing it up close was like stepping into history. The best part? There’s no entrance fee, so you can explore the site freely!
The Gier Aqueduct is one of the longest Roman aqueducts in France, originally built to supply water to the city of Lugdunum (modern-day Lyon). Walking alongside its towering arches and well-preserved remains, I was struck by the ingenuity of the ancient Romans. The surrounding area is peaceful and scenic, making it a perfect spot for a quiet walk or a picnic. 🌿🍷
After exploring the aqueduct, I took a short drive to Lyon, where I spent the afternoon wandering through the vibrant Old Town. With its charming cobblestone streets, Renaissance architecture, and delicious local cuisine, it’s a must-visit. I treated myself to some traditional Lyonnais dishes at a local bouchon, which was the perfect way to end the day. 🍽️🏙️
The Gier Roman Aqueduct is a must-see for history buffs and anyone interested in ancient architecture. Its impressive scale and the beautiful surroundings make it a worthwhile stop on any trip to the Lyon region.

Rich Culture and History
#hiddengems
Lyon offers such a rich package of History, culture, stunning cuisine, architecture and a lot less tourists. This can be a wonderful alternative to Paris or say if you're done with the most important things in Paris. Lyon should be the better place to head to. There is a museum for arts, culture, archeology, textile etc. All this reflects on the theme of Lyon.
With cinema aficionados, Lyon is also famous for Lumiere brothers. What I love and especially after having to deal with crowds and tourist traps in Paris, The initimate atmosphere that Lyon offers. It's so peaceful. And seeing different things or visiting places doesn't require as much effort. It's an experience you must have to understand what is so wonderful about it. #hiddengems #france #lyon
A must see landmark in Lyon 🇫🇷⛪️🔔
#timetotravel
The Basilica is located on the Fouvrière hill, overlooking Lyon and there are 3 ways to get there:
1) To take the tram from Vieux Lyon to Fourvière
2) Hike (~18 mins on foot)
3) By car (~4 mins)
I took the 1st option going up and the 2nd option down. I would definitely recommend taking the tram because the tram itself is another attraction in lyon (much like the peak tram in HK).
The Basilica is a majestic architecture with both outstanding interior and exterior design. It is definitely worth visiting.

The Saone and Rhone rivers flow, Lyon, France🇫🇷

📍Lyon, France 🇫🇷
💙 My grandmother and I went on a trip to Lyon, France. The Saone and Rhone rivers flow around the center of Lyon, and they are large rivers with spectacular views. In addition, the rivers have refreshing colors, making them great for taking pictures. Also, there are many restaurants in Lyon where you can eat Lyon home-cooked meals called bouchons, so you can enjoy a food tour. Kneel is a Lyon-style dish made with softly-wrapped fish meat, and I highly recommend it! There are also many things to see, such as the city hall and the wall of Lyonnais.
Lyon is a magnificent city in the southeast of France. it's known for being the gastronomical capital of France with it's exquisite cousine. Make sure to try out one of the many bouchons on the west coast of the Sona river. after that climb up to the top where you can have a spectacular view of the city from the terrace near the basilica. Worth every step to the top (or you can use the funicular upwards and go back using the stairs - they are not so many).
