A Culinary Journey Through Hoi An Ancient City
#localfoodies #unesco #vietnam #bestfood #100waysoftravel #neverstopexploring
Hoi An Ancient City is more than just a charming UNESCO World Heritage Site with lantern-lit streets and a timeless atmosphere—it’s a culinary haven that serves up some of the most unique and flavorful dishes in Vietnam. Walking through its historic alleys, I discovered not only stunning architecture but also a rich tapestry of local cuisine that tells the story of its vibrant culture and heritage.
One dish that stood out was Minced Clams (Hen Xuc Banh Trang), a delightful mix of clams fished fresh from the Hoai River, stir-fried with fragrant herbs like onions, spring onions, chili, and peanuts. It’s served with crispy rice paper, which doubles as a spoon—making it both a culinary delight and a playful experience.
Another must-try is Cao Lầu, a dish as unique as Hoi An itself. The chewy, slightly smoky noodles are said to be made with water from an ancient Cham well, paired with tender pork, bean sprouts, garlic, and fresh greens. Every bite offers a harmony of textures and flavors, making it a dish you won’t find anywhere else in Vietnam.
And then there’s White Rose, Hoi An’s delicate take on ravioli. These translucent dumplings are filled with shrimp or pork, garnished with herbs, and served with a tangy sweet-and-sour sauce. They’re light yet packed with flavor, a testament to the city’s culinary finesse.
Exploring the ancient streets while indulging in these local delicacies was an experience like no other. The food, infused with the spirit of Hoi An’s history and culture, brought the city to life in the most delicious way.
Tip: Plan your visit around the evening when the lanterns light up the streets, creating the perfect backdrop for savoring these iconic dishes. Don’t miss the local night market, where you can sample even more of Hoi An’s culinary treasures.

Craving a taste of Japan without leaving Penang? Haku Japanese Cuisine in Tanjung Bungah is the perfect spot. Last week, I decided to treat myself to a solo dinner and was not disappointed.

Check out this brunch spot when you visit Singapore
The Food Peeps Coffee & Deli is located in the heritage Chinatown district and is a popular brunch spot with the locals! They don’t take reservations so an important tip is to head there early to put your name on their manual guest list.
The menu is largely western styled mains like eggs, waffles, toast and bagels. Everything we tried was truly delicious! They also have a range of artisanal drinks like earl grey lychee tea, very refreshing.
Note that the deli does not have air-conditioning so it can get a little warm inside.

A Londoner brought me to Camden Market - Here’s what i tried!
Camden Market is a playground for food lovers, where every corner tempts you with bold flavors and irresistible aromas. If you’re chasing the perfect foodie experience, this iconic London hotspot delivers—and then some. On my latest visit, I dove into three must-try dishes that made my taste buds dance: the viral wheel cheese pasta, Greek street food, and sticky toffee pudding.
First stop: the famous wheel cheese pasta. If you’ve seen this on social media, you know the hype is real. Watching the pasta swirl in a giant wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano is mesmerizing, but the real magic is in the taste. Creamy, cheesy, and perfectly seasoned, it’s comfort food elevated to an art form. It’s impossible not to savor every bite.
Next, I headed to the Greek street food stall for a taste of the Mediterranean. Their souvlaki was the highlight—a warm, pillowy pita stuffed with juicy, marinated meat, fresh veggies, and tangy tzatziki. Each bite was a burst of flavor, balancing smoky, savory, and refreshing notes. It’s a reminder of why Greek street food is always a crowd-pleaser.
To round off my foodie tour, I indulged in a classic British dessert: sticky toffee pudding. This rich, caramel-soaked treat was everything I hoped for—soft, warm, and decadently sweet. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect ending to a day of culinary exploration.
Camden Market is more than just a shopping destination; it’s a celebration of global cuisine and local creativity. Whether you’re chasing viral dishes or craving something traditional, this foodie paradise never disappoints. Ready to take your taste buds on an adventure? Start with these three incredible dishes—you won’t regret it.

Mesa Verda national park Colorado trip featured so many wonderful experiences and one of them was ##localfoodies
Navajo fry bread includes flour, baking powder, salt, and water. Mix, knead, and let rest. Roll into discs, then deep fry until golden. Serve with honey, beans, or as a taco shell. The stall close by enroute was though not a big one but certainly the traditional fry bread was superb. And only 5 USD a piece, served with sprinklers and honey 🍯

- Located in the bustling Patong area, Prechaya BBQ Buffet offers a quintessential Thai mookata experience. This popular spot, frequented by locals, serves a variety of marinated pork, fresh seafood, and crisp vegetables. The highlight is the dual cooking setup: a mookata pot to grill pork and simmer vegetables, and a separate charcoal grill for seafood. The interactive dining style, combined with the smoky flavors from the grill, made it a fun and memorable evening. If you’re looking for an authentic local vibe, this is the place to be.

From the succulent grilled squid and garlic steamed prawns to the deep-fried mantis prawn and grilled rhino prawn, every bite was a delight. The seafood tom yum kung packed a spicy and tangy punch, while the pineapple fried rice added a touch of sweetness to balance the meal. The standout for me was the stir-fried squid and crabs with vegetables, perfectly cooked and bursting with local flavors.
Modern Bars: Cocktails with a View
- To round off the culinary exploration, I visited chic bars at two luxurious hotels: the Amari Hotel in Patong and Avista Grande in Karon. These bars offered a contemporary twist on local cocktails, blending Thai flavors with a touch of elegance. Sipping on these expertly crafted drinks while enjoying breathtaking views of the ocean and the vibrant Phuket skyline was the perfect way to unwind. Wanna Grill, a small restaurant in a vast rice field
A mysterious restaurant, hidden behind a building on the side of the road. Walk along a small canal for a bit to find the restaurant.
The corner of the restaurant offers a beautiful view of the rice fields. On the day we went, the wind was cool and comfortable.
If you're lucky and there are no clouds blocking the view, this is one of the best places to see Mount Agung.
The owner is very friendly and provides free tea, free snacks, and free fruits after your meal. It's not easy to find something like this in Bali. A real gem.
The dishes are big and delicious. We had grilled chicken, pork ribs, and fried rice. Every dish was really delicious.
The food may take a little while to wait.
Highly recommended if you're looking for a place that's not a big restaurant and focuses on quietness.

The price is affordable, the complete package if I'm not mistaken costs 35k.
There is a parking lot for motorbikes and cars so you don't need to worry if you bring a vehicle. Can be used as one of the places to eat while in Bali.
