Summer in Germany 🇩🇪 Part 1: 12hrs stopover in Berlin: History, Art & Hidden Gems
Berlin in a day? Fast-paced, packed with history, creativity, and some unexpected finds. With limited time, I squeezed in as much as I could—mixing iconic landmarks with personal favorites and a few lucky discoveries.
🚶♂️ History First: A Walk Through Berlin’s Past
I kicked off the day at Brandenburg Gate, then made my way to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe—a sobering but powerful experience. A quick stop at Checkpoint Charlie brought Cold War history to life, standing at what was once the world’s most famous border crossing.
🎨 Art, Culture & Unexpected Treasures
Berlin’s East Side Gallery was next, where the remnants of the Berlin Wall are now covered in bold, thought-provoking murals. From there, I stumbled upon an art flea market, packed with vintage finds, handmade pieces, and indie artists selling their work. Couldn’t resist picking up a roll of film at a great price, perfect for capturing future travels.
🧋🍜 Food & Bubble Tea Breaks
No stopover is complete without good food, and Berlin’s Vietnamese scene is next-level. I grabbed a bowl of comforting phở, a taste of home in the middle of Germany. For dessert, I made my way to The Alley Bubble Tea, because sometimes, you just need that perfect boba fix.
📸 One Last Stroll Before Heading Out
As the day wrapped up, I soaked in the city’s energy, stopping at a beer garden for a Berliner Weisse before heading back to the station. Berlin in a day? Chaotic, colorful, and full of surprises—just the way it should be.
I will be heading next to Nuremberg and it'd be in the part 2.
