Journey Through Petra: Exploring Timeless Treasures and Hidden Gems!
Petra blew me away! The day began with excitement as you arrived at one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, Petra. The heat was already noticeable from early morning, so made sure to carry plenty of water. A sunhat and sunscreen!
From the moment I stepped into the Siq, the narrow canyon that leads to the famous Treasury, I felt transported to another time. The stunning façade of Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) is even mire impressive up close - carved into the rose-red rock, it’s an iconic symbol of Petra’s grandeur. #VisitPetra #historicallandmarks
As the day goes on, you continue exploring deeper into Petra, heading towards the Royal Tombs and the vast amphitheater. The stone steps and rocky paths can be tough under the hot sun, but the views are worth every step. Each corner of Petra tells a story of a once-thriving Nabatean civilisation, and every view is breathtaking.
The highlight? Hiking to the Monastery (Ad-Deir). While the climb is challenging, it rewards you with panoramic views and an awe-inspiring structure. If you are up for an adventure, it’s well worth it! #localguides
Pro Tip: once you reach the Monastery, the terrace right in front of it offers breathtaking views of the valley below. I highly recommend having a break or lunch there! It’s also an ideal spot for taking photos with the Monastery in the foreground #panoramicviews #photography
Recommendations for Petra:
- Arrive early: the site opens around 6 am, and arriving early will not only help you avoid the heat but also the large crowds.
- Stay hydrated and protected: the Jordanian sun can be unforgiving, specially during summer.
-Comfortable footwear: Petra requires a lot of walking! The hike to the Monastery, in particular, can be taxing and can take around 40 minutes.
- Enjoy Local Food: plan for a meal at one of the restaurants inside, it’s great to sit down in the shade for a break while trying some local cuisine.
-Plan your day: Petra is massive, you will need at least one full day exploring the site. We spend around 8 hours!
Extra Tip: you can also visit Petra by night. Don’t miss the chance to see the Treasury lit by hundreds of candles-it’s an unforgettable experience.
Petra is more than just a historical site, it’s an adventure that brings you closer to the rich past of Jordan and leaves a lasting impression!

Petra is an ancient city in Jordan and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. It is known for the magnificent rock-cut architecture and unique water conduit system, Petra is also known as the "Rose City" due to its distinctive pink sandstone cliffs. Definitely a check off my bucket list.
Getting there - I took a bus/ coach from Amman to Petra early in the morning.
Highlights / Must-Sees - I went to Petra for 2 days straight to see majority of the sites in this ancient city. There are multiple routes and do note that trekking is required for many of the sites higher up the cliffs.
1. Treasury
Highlights - This is the first majestic structure you will see upon entering Petra. My breath stopped for a moment when I first walked in. Known for its elaborate Hellenistic architecture carved into rose-red sandstone, the intricate facades and stunning columns reflects the skills and artistry of the Nabataean people.
2. Monastery
Highlights - This is quite a hike up but totally worth it. It stands about 50m high and has a grand facade with intricate carvings. From monastery area, you can get breathtaking views of surrounding landscape
3. Royal Tombs
Highlights - This is a series of rock-cut burial sites carved into the cliffs. This shows us the architectural skills of the Nabateans.
4. Colonnaded Street
Highlights - In this stretch, you can see impressive columns and this place served as the commercial hub in the ancient city.

A visit to Petra is surely the highlight of a trip to Jordan . I spent the entire day there , and regretted not booking a 2 night stay in Petra , as the site is enormous, and very worthy of the time spent exploring the ancient city . Founded by the Nabataean civilization, Petra is known as the Rose city. Apart from the world famous Treasury and Monastery , be sure to hire a guide to the Tombs and the amphitheater . Definitely a bucketlist destination !
Petra (Jordan)
One of the seven wonders of the modern world, the ancient city of Petra is so special. Located deep in the Jordanian desert, Petra is an ancient stone city carved from pink sandstone.
Petra was lost for centuries and was rediscovered in 1812. This is what prompted historians to call it the Lost City. What's so special about this ancient arceological wonder dating back to the 4th century BC?
Petra is over 2,000 years old
Petra is an ancient city dating back to the 4th century BC. "This makes it one of the oldest surviving cities in the world," wrote Rossie Lesso on The Collector page.
Nicknamed the Rose City, Petra was founded by the Nabateans, an ancient Arab people who formed a cultural center there.
The reason is, Petra is located along the busiest and most important ancient trade route, between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. Petra is also at the crossroads of routes between Arabia, Egypt, and Syria-Phoenesia.
It is no wonder that Petra was once an important stopover for foreign traders. They paid for water and shelter in the middle of the desert. "This means that Petra was rich and prosperous in its time," Lesso added.
Petra is carved from rock
The ancient city of Petra is half carved and half built from local sandstone. The sand comes in shades of red, white and pink. The city even takes its name from the material it is made from - derived from the Greek word 'petros' meaning stone.
This impressive architectural feat displays a variety of architectural styles. From Nabatean stone carvings to Greco-Roman and Hellenistic temples.

If you find traveling has become mundane, try visiting Jordan!!
I recommend a road trip in Jordan.
It was a fresh and moving experience.
The scenery is spectacular everywhere, and the people are friendly, often greeting with 'Hello'. I've grown fond of Jordan.
I would love to go again if I have the chance.
Life's sunset at the Dead Sea is a bonus.

2023: a year to remember! What’s netx? 🔜✈️
2023 was a beautiful year! I had the opportunity to visit many new places.
In January I went to Jordan. While I was there, I had the opportunity to visit Petra, one of the seven wonders of the modern world. January being a non-high season period, there were few people and it was beautiful. Petra is definitely a magical place to see at least once in a lifetime.
In April instead I had the opportunity to go to Beijing. Here too I saw another wonder of the modern world, The Great Wall of China. But the thing that left me most shocked was the Terracotta army which is located in the city of Xi'An.
I hope to have other opportunities to travel in 2024 as I had in 2023. The destinations I would like to visit this year are New Zealand and French Polynesia…so Oceania is my next goal 🔜✈️

Petra Ancient City | One of the New Seven Wonders of the World 🌹
Petra is located between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. The entire ancient city is covered with roses and is beautiful. Therefore, it is known as the "City of Roses" and is one of the new seven wonders of the world🌹
A small regret is not having time to visit the monastery this time, it is strongly recommended that you reserve at least a whole day or even two days to visit the ancient city of Petra 😉
1. Snake Road (Sick Canyon)
A narrow passage 1.2 kilometers long, flanked by auburn rocks, is dazzling
2. Temple of Kazni
One of the new seven wonders of the world, and the location of the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
hotel:
Mövenpick Nabatean Castle
Address: Kings Highway, Queen Rania St, Wadi Musa 71811 Jordan
Although it is a little distance from the ancient city, the hotel helped us upgrade the room, spacious and comfortable, the room can already view the mountains and canyons, superb🤩

Petra, A True World Wonder
Petra is located in Wadi Musa, Jordan and you’re able to access the archeological site of Petra from Wadi Musa, access to Wadi Musa is via Coach, Driving or Taxi from what I am aware. Entrances fees into Petra can vary depending on how many days you’re planning to visit however I recommend getting ‘The Jordan Pass’ which allows you access into Petra and in my case being from the UK covered Visa costs as well as access to other sites across the country of Jordan for example in Amman.
The entrance to Petra begins with the huge crevasse that is most known in Western Culture from the Indiana Jones movie, this portion of Petra lasts for 20 to 30 minutes and is magically with every bend being as unique as the previous alongside this the pure size of crevasse really has you in awe. Once you reach the end of the crevasse you’re met with The Treasury, Petra’s most famous landmark and most photographed, the huge building carved into the hillside is truly spectacular and makes you consider what is possible and achievable.
Whilst visiting Petra you’re able to travel via Golf Cart, Horse, Donkey or Camel for various prices however in my instance I opted to just walk. You’re able to travel Petra at your own pace and along the way you have plenty of locations offering affordable food, drinks and souvenirs.

The Monastery, Petra’s Hiking Beauty Spot
When visiting Petra The Monastery is located at the opposite end of the archaeological site from the entrance and main attraction, to get to the monastery you must walk for around an hour with 30/40 of those minutes being uphill, along the way there is opportunities to stop and upon getting to the top you’re treated to an affordable shop considering the location, seating locations and an option to continue to see a view of the mountain range that is the backdrop to Petra.
One thing you won’t miss when getting to the monastery is the huge sign saying “Best View in Petra” hung across a mountain face that takes you to an view that holds up to the signs claim, at the top their is another shop that closes around sundown. Definitely worth the extra effort and hike to go and see.
In the rest of the photos you can see some of the lesser known gems within the site of Petra which showcases the need to spend at-least a day exploring the entire site, you are able to select various routes and go at your own pace within Petra or there are plenty of guides available.

my trip to petra was amazing. i was surprised how man in the past, without supportive construction machine or equipment can build such incredible city. I bough a pass, thinking it is enough to see all places easily. but no! it is not enough. there are so many thing to see and explore. i suggest to buy at least 2 days pass and stay overnight in city so you can wander around without rushing.

Petra, the magnificent ancient city carved into rose-red cliffs, is a must-see destination for any traveler to Jordan. Here's everything you need to know to plan an unforgettable visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Petra is located about 150 miles south of Amman. You can reach it by renting a car, taking a bus, or joining a tour. The closest town is Wadi Musa, where most visitors stay.
The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when temperatures are mild. Summer can be extremely hot, while winter brings chilly temperatures and occasional rain.

Start early to beat the crowds and heat. The 2km walk through the Siq leads to the iconic Treasury, Petra's most famous structure. But don't stop there - explore the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and the Monastery. For stunning views, hike up to the High Place of Sacrifice

Petra Jordan , a very unique destination.
I grew up watching it in many movies…
Indiana Jones , transformer …
But seeing it with ur own very eyes is totally different.
What’s can I say it’s worth just to travel thousand of miles just to be there to withness this amazing ancient architecture.
Well going tru the whole place really need 2-3 days and lots of physical fitness and stamina though. ( nothing more than 3-4 days )
I choose Petra bubble as my accommodation , is not the nearest to the historical entrance actually is abit far approximately 10mins drive distance but I simply love the photo opportunity and the feeling of soaking in the horizon after a long walking day at the site .

Petra: A Jewel in the Kingdom of Jordan
Petra is an amazing cultural site, with ancient ruins, palaces, and temples. The walk in through winding canyons is a magical experience by itself! I enjoyed the years of history and the education information available. The sunrise feels like a dream among these buildings of the ancient world.
Some of the hikes can be intense, so wear good shoes and take a water bottle. I also recommend going very early in the morning, as soon as the site is open to visitors, because too many people will arrive even by mid-morning.#jordan #petra #desert #约旦 #废墟 #寺庙 #沙漠 #hiking #爬山
Feel lost in ancient Petra
Petra, an ancient city in Jordan, is one of the 7 wonders of the world! Visit #petra
As for the itinerary, make sure you spend at least 2 days there! You have to decide before you enter the country as you will need to get the Jordan Pass in advance for the visa, but I would suggest 2 days.
For the first day, you can take the Main Trail and all the way you will see the Treasury and Al Siq. Then extend it all the way to the monastery!
For the second day you can visit the treasury viewpoint. The trail is fairly challenging, then descend to go to High Place of Sacrifice Trail.
A RARELY TRAVELED COUNTRY WELL WORTH !!
