Nature Like You’ve Never Seen It Before, Like Another Planet
An absolute highlight of my recent trip to New Zealand for Chinese New Year, The Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland. NZ is famous for its volcanic and geothermal activity and there’s no better place to experience it than this, I’ve never seen anything like it. There are guided walk ways that take you around some
Of New Zealand’s most active and most beautiful geothermal areas. The main feature is the champagne pool, a huge lake constantly bubbling and emitting overwhelming clouds of steam.
The pool is quite shallow and you can see beautiful underwater detailing, also the range or colours in the mud and water around it is stunning. If you get close enough you can be surrounded by steam and experience the heat, id advise closing your mouth as the sulphur makes the experience very eggy.
Follow the trails that you want to do, we did the two main trails and it took us under 2 hours. It was a very easy walk but it can be tough in the heat, so pack sun cream and water as there are no facilities along the route.
I was amazed at the colours in the water and how different the thermal outlets can be, some made of mud, some are super hot water and others seem to just be tiny cracks in sheer rock.
It was one of the pricier experiences on the trip but totally worth it! It also has a very nice gift shop and restaurant if you want to recharge after the walk
Entrance fee is $45NZ / £22
It’s open 8:30 - 4:30 and last entry is 3PM
‼️ this is an active geothermal area and it can be very dangerous, please stick to the designated walk ways and don’t touch the water!! It can be very hot and very poisonous ‼️

A Historical Mining Site Reclaimed By Nature, A Fascinating Hike
The Ohinemuri river is on the northern island of New Zealand at the base of the Coromandel peninsula, I stopped off during a visit for Chinese New Year.
The river is stunning with calm, clear waters that meander around the hills and mountains in the area. The road that follows the river is a beautiful scenic journey but the corners can be quite scary, so drive slow!
The river is famous for its historical role as a gold mining area, helping to fuel the development of the local area. The Karangahake Gorge Historic walkway allows you to see what remains of this industry. There are ruins of buildings, leftover equipment and of course the infamous railway bridges and tunnel.
The railway tunnel is now a walking trial and links many of the local walking trail, but be careful the tunnel can be cold, wet and dark and is also popular with local cyclists!
The gorge is well signposted on local roads, has car parks and toilets and has varying degrees of hikes so there’s something for everyone!

Worlds of Wonder At Hamilton Gardens, You Can’t Miss this!
To start my adventure to New Zealand for Chinese New Year I headed on a week long road trip with my brother. First stop was Hamilton about 2 hours south of Auckland, we stopped off at the Hamilton gardens. I hadn’t ever heard of this place but I was really surprised by it, it’s an award winning garden with manicured areas from all around the world.
You need a map to get around as this place is a maze! Each area has a small entrance with many little paths leading off into different gardens.
There are gardens from all around the world with India, Japan and China being highlights for me. Each garden has its own focal point and features including water features, small authentic buildings and modern art pieces.
Going into this with no expectations really blew me away, and we were in there for hours and made sure we explored every garden.
It cost £10 / $20NZ and was totally worth it!

Welcoming The New Year At The Stunning Cathedral Cove
During my recent new year trip to New Zealand I took a week long road trip to see some of the natural wonders of this beautiful country.
We drove to the Coramandel which is one of New Zealand’s premier beach areas a I was blown away.
It’s only a 2.5 hour drive from Auckland and the drive itself is stunning, snaking up and around mountains on narrow roads.
The cathedral cove is a world famous rock formation and beach shaped by the coastal erosion. The sheer size of it is breath taking and the beaches around it are beautiful spots for swimming and relaxing. The cove is about a 30 minute walk from the car park but it’s an easy walk and there are toilets along the way, along with stunning views from the look outs.
You can also take some of the longer hikes around the area, all are clearly signposted and well maintained.
It’s a must do if you’re in the area! Just be very aware of the tides as they can change quickly, also be very aware of rockfall. There had been some big rockfall in the days before our visit.

Auckland Zoo For Year Of the Snake, So Many Happy Animals!
For Chinese New Year I headed to New Zealand, something I have wanted to do for a long time.
I had a few days spare in Auckland and had heard grad things about the zoo so I decided to check it out.
I was honestly blown away by the zoo and without a doubt it quickly became one of the best I’ve ever seen.
The zoo itself is really well laid out and all animals have big enclosures with plenty of light and greenery. All the animals looked so happy and healthy and you can tell they are well looked after. There are lots of volunteers walking around helping to inform you about all the animals which was a really nice touch.
Entrance was $35NZ / £16 and well worth the price!

New Zealand - Ultimate Glacier Adventure Experience in the Southern Hemisphere Summer
Franz Josef Glacier Helicopter Adventure
First, the best way to reach the glacier is by helicopter, offering a breathtaking aerial view of the Franz Josef Glacier. The flight lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, during which you can admire the expansive view of the glacier stretching to the snowy mountains, flying over crevasses, mountain ranges, and glacial lakes—scenery only visible from a helicopter.
After landing on the glacier, a professional guide will provide you with the necessary equipment for the glacier adventure, including crampons and ice axes, and give a brief introduction to the glacier and safety precautions. Once geared up, you will step onto the glacier, walk through crevasses and ice caves, and experience the wonder and grandeur of this millennia-old icy world firsthand. This adventure lasts about 1 to 2 hours, during which you can walk on the glacier, take photos, and observe the intricate structures of the ice and snow.
The guide will lead you through various glacier landscapes and may even take you to explore some hidden ice caves and crevasses, allowing you to feel the mystery and power of this ancient glacier.
From preparation to completion, the entire experience takes about 4-5 hours. We were fortunate to have good weather on the mountain that day, so the helicopter flight was not affected. However, the previous group of tourists was not so lucky. Whether this trip can proceed is entirely dependent on the weather conditions on the mountain, so it is essential to plan to stay in the area for two to three days. Waiting for a good weather day to fly up to the glacier adventure is definitely one of the must-experience adventures in life. Don't miss out!
珍旅食光Picky Jeanne’s Travels New Zealand's Ultimate Sheep Farm Experience
In Hong Kong, it's really hard to find opportunities to see sheep. So when we go to New Zealand, we must visit a farm to see real sheep and experience sheep herding firsthand! At Agrodome Farm, not only do they introduce different breeds of sheep, but they also have a sheep shearing show. Kids are even invited on stage to feed the lambs, which is very exciting! After the show, we ride a giant truck into the farm to get up close and personal with the sheep and even feed them ourselves. Everyone is thrilled and it's a real eye-opener! Highly recommended for families!
Experience a Southern Hemisphere Chinese New Year at Stewart Island
During my visit to Stewart Island for Chinese New Year 2024, I was captivated by the island's serene beauty and the unique blend of local traditions with the festive spirit. Even though the ferry ride there was very bumpy but the community's warm hospitality made the journey & celebration truly special.
Exploring the island's natural wonders, I encountered diverse wildlife, including the iconic kiwi and penguin species. The pristine landscapes and vibrant birdlife offered a memorable experience, making my time on Stewart Island unforgettable.

Moeraki Boulders: Nature’s Mystical Sculptures by the Sea
The short hike down from the car park to Moeraki Boulders offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and surrounding landscape. The path is easy to follow, with plenty of spots to pause and admire the stunning scenery. However, it’s important to check the tides before visiting, as the boulders are only fully visible during low tide. At high tide, much of the beach is submerged, hiding the famous stone formations.
During low tide, the beach is open for exploration, and you can walk among the boulders, marveling at their unusual shapes and sizes. The view of the giant, spherical stones against the backdrop of the ocean is truly spectacular, making it a perfect spot for photography or simply soaking in the natural beauty. The entire experience, from the hike to the beach, is a memorable and peaceful adventure.

Tunnel Beach: A Secluded Gem with Breathtaking Ocean Views
Hiking to Tunnel Beach was an unforgettable adventure, though definitely more challenging than we expected. The path down to the beach was steep and rugged, making the journey a bit demanding on our legs. When we finally arrived at the beach, the view was absolutely worth the effort.
The hike back up was definitely tough, with our sore legs protesting every step. The steep incline felt even more challenging as we made our way uphill, but the memory of the view kept us motivated. Despite the physical effort required, Tunnel Beach was a highlight of our trip, offering both a rewarding challenge and one of the most beautiful, tranquil spots we’d visited.
It’s a hike we’d recommend for anyone looking to experience the raw, unspoiled beauty of New Zealand’s coastline!

The Church of The Good Shepherd 🇳🇿
#magicalxmastrip
Situated on the shores of Lake Takapō amongst the natural beauty of the lake and the mountains, the Church of the Good Shepherd was built as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie Country.
Standing in front of the Church of the Good Shepherd, you can feel the simplicity and time travel atmosphere it exudes.
The simple stone walls contrast with the pure natural background, as if time has stopped here, making people unconsciously immersed in it.
Imagine that many years ago, people who worked hard to shepherd sheep prayed here. It was a very simple thing. Who would have thought that now tourists from all over the world come here to visit, but it never thought of becoming more gorgeous to please anyone.
Group tour is available and highly recommended to understand the history!

Tasman Glacier in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Lifetime moments
#magicalxmastrip
Tasman Glacier is the largest glacier in New Zealand, and one of several large glaciers which flow south and east towards the Mackenzie Basin from the Southern Alps in New Zealand's South Island.
The ice cubes on the lake are different. Some are crystal clear and have smooth surfaces. The inverted ice cubes like the ones in the picture are particularly dense and melt three times slower than ordinary ice cubes.
Even so, 40 years ago, this lake was once covered by glaciers, but now it has become the lake in front of you.
The big ice blocks you see in front of you seem to have been there for a long time, and they may disappear soon.
Thank you for being here until we arrived 🧊

Tongariro alpine crossing amidst volcanoes - New Zealand
19.4km day hike across an active volcanic landscape - that’s the Tongariro alpine crossing in the middle of north island, New Zealand. Considered one of the top 10 1-day hike in the world, I had to give my shot in conquering it as an amateur hiker. It wasn’t easy - rough terrains and slippery ice on certain steep parts, slippery terrain after red crater, the Devil’s staircase, long distance 20km, almost sub-zero temperatures at the red crater during my hike in end April 2024. This trail is not for the weak - you have to be well prepared! Bring food, water, layers, gloves, adequate hiking equipment.
Of course, I was rewarded with majestic views I’ve never seen before in my lifetime. Catching the sunrise, the silhouette of the volcanoes before sunrise, the red crater, the emerald lakes. Simply gorgeous.

Tasman Glacier 🗻 Beautiful 360-degree glacier viewpoint
The Tasman Glacier viewpoint is not far from Mount Cook. It is a glacier viewpoint with a very well-made walkway. It is not difficult to walk, but it is narrow and quite high up. People who are afraid of heights may shiver a bit. 😅
When I walked up, I was so amazed 🤩 Wow, it was so beautiful!!! There was no one at all. It is a truly beautiful 360-degree viewpoint. It is the view that I voted as the most beautiful on this trip. I was so impressed that I don't know how to explain it. As for the glacier, you can't see much. It is so far away. But it is 100/10 here. 🩵💕⛰️: I recommend walking carefully because the path is narrow.

Milford Sound 🛳️ ล่องเรือดูวิวหุบเขาสุดอลังการ
When we first saw the picture of Milford Sound, we pinned it as a must-visit. It feels like Jurassic World ⛰️. The nature is so magnificent. We want to go!!! But it's so far from anywhere else. So we stayed in Te Anau first (it's like a resort town) and then left for Milford Sound early in the morning.
The view along the way is so magnificent. When we arrived, there were many tourist boats. They were big boats that took us to see the view for about 2 hours. The view was so beautiful!!! Overall, I really liked it. It was worth the long drive. It's really beautiful.
🎫 Boat tickets: We bought tickets online in advance and exchanged them at the Real NZ counter before boarding the boat.
🚢: We recommend leaving extra time for the trip. You should arrive 1 hour before the boat leaves because you have to find a parking spot, walk from the parking lot to the pier (quite far), and exchange your boat tickets. We went on time. It was hard to find a parking spot. We had to run all the way. We almost didn't make it to the boat in time.

🏔️เดินเทรคกิ้งดู Mount Cook แบบชัดๆ
The highlight of New Zealand's South Island must be "Mount Cook". The real thing is very beautiful. It's even more beautiful than the pictures I've seen. It's another one of the most beautiful mountains I've ever seen in my life. 😍
Mount Cook can be seen all the way when driving. But if you're trekking, you'll get to see it up close at the "Hooker Valley Track". It's a very easy path, not steep, but very far back and forth. It takes 2 hours to walk and another 2 hours to return. I'm very tired. But the view is beautiful all the way. It's so beautiful. I want to take pictures from every angle. 555 (The last picture is my legs are sore. I had to sit and rest under a tree. 🤣)
🌞: I recommend bringing drinking water, sunscreen, a sun protection shirt, and non-slip sneakers. You don't have to wear hiking shoes.
