You've got to look at your travels through an adventure lens. We took a taxi to this bamboo forest in Moganshan. Once we had spent the day hiking through the thick bamboo and observing the gorgeous scenery, we were ready to head back to our hotel. However, we couldn't find a taxi! Eventually, we made our way deeper into town where we were able to find a bus. We had no idea where this bus was going, but we got on it anyways. It's a continuation of our adventure! We got to see so much more on this bus than we would have if we had just found a taxi to take us back to the hotel. What could have been a disaster ended up a fun-filled afternoon with new friends, all because we chose to see our travel through an adventure lens. We have been many times in Moganshan, and after you visit what is worth to see, this place is nice even to go and simply do...nothing! You can relax and stroll out to enjoy the landscape and the fresh air, to escape for a while from the bustle of Shanghai. We had a pleasant weekend at the Joyous resort, a cozy villa immersed in the green landscape of Moganshan. The Hotel, managed by two enthusiastic guys, is very well kept, and despite it's reachable only by a narrow path 100m long, they provide shuttle service from the parking with a golf cart. Once up at the hotel, the place is the quiet cradle you have been desiring for the whole week, and a perfect starting point to visit Moganshan. The family Loft we lived in is simply great, full of light, and with an inspiring skylight. The breakfast is good, with only chinese options though, but they serve coffee as well. There are beautiful places in Moganshan for a hike and camp, surrounded by clear streams and bamboo forest. I believe there are places you can camp in a wild, but the are also cheap camping spots for 20rmb a person with a bathroom and shower, possible to stay on moving house too. Hiking route might be extended for gold DeO trip with 2 camping nights. For DeO its a orienteering trip with a map and compasses. Group have to find check points on the map first and plan their own route. They have to be totally independent too, with all camping equipment, food and all they need for a trip. Its a nice way to extend teamwork, leadership, resilience and self-confidence. I guess its a best way to get closer to a nature,exploring yourself and own limits nowadays. Route goes through the nice mountains view points, waterfalls and streams. If you like wild hike and camp there are spots in the bamboo forest by the clean streams. June is anice season to buy fruits and berries there, you can find them on the hiking route. Minimum you need in hot season is a sunscreen, mosquito spray and regular camping equipment. Moganshan is a place just 2 hours away by drive from Shanghai. It’s a mountainous area with a lot of activities to offer. The drive to the place was amazing the views are amazing and breathtaking with a lot of greenery and beautiful houses. The quad bikes or atv are at an area called Jiuqi International Riding Camp. This was the best riding experience, I have had. Although, I didn’t know how to ride, the assistants at the place helped me and thought me how to ride. The ride was 30 minutes long and we went through the mountain and tea plantation. The cost was ¥600 for two people and the price was truly worth it. Moganshan is a place that offers quite a lot, from busy touristy places, picture worthy spots, beautiful nature and lots of adventures. I’m always up for some adrenaline rush so I went and did white rafting. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to take the best pictures while rafting😅. I also did a couple of other activities such as paragliding, hot air balloon ride and quad biking (which was incredibly exciting). The Quad bike ride was definitely the best for me cause we rode for about 40 minute through different terrains (muddy roads, rivers, dusty roads, rugged roads etc). You might need to bring an extra set of clothes cause you will definitely need to change after the activity. PS. I wasn’t that much impressed with the hot air balloon as we didn’t actually go anywhere😂. We just went up, then got back down and that was it lol. Moganshan main area has a few options for food, we chose this DejaVu bistro style place for dinner one evening and lunch the next day. The food was tasty and enjoyable. Prices here range from 58RMB to 228RMB but they have a large variety of options. From soups, pasta, steak and pizzas, I’m sure everyone would find something they can enjoy. The bistro has 3 main areas to sit and enjoy, the downstairs, the very lit up upstairs, or the garden style balcony upstairs as well. The coffee shop lies on the corner of the main town area in Moganshan. While the owner speaks Chinese only and the menu is also only in Chinese it’s a nice and easy place to stop and relax. Drinks range from 26RMB to 46RMB and cakes are more expensive at either 38RMB or 48RMB. I tried the Mango cake and it was delicious! The coffee shop is attached to a miniature museum that gives the history of Moganshan and the travel between nearby cities (Shanghai and Hangzhou) from 1920 China to now. It’s interesting to see how Moganshan has developed while visiting an open and airy coffee shop. Getting There - We used a private tour company from Shanghai to Moganshan Attractions - The bamboo forest and the snow mountain. Hotels - It was a day trip but there is quite a few home stays in the area for accommodation. Food & Restaurants - Local Chinese restaurants in the neighbourhood. A very great experience of being in the bamboo forest 🌳 . A great experience to admire the nature and the snow mountains. The tour was planned by a private travel agency. They treated us to a local Chinese meal 👌 and after that we proceeded to our hike. Getting There - You can take the high speed train to Hangzhou and from there take a taxi to Moganshan. Attractions - Many beautiful hiking trails. 🥾 Despite the doom and gloom of winter I wanted an escape from the City yet again. 🌧 I wanted to walk amounts the trees and wake up to Mountain View’s, Moganshan was the perfect little escape it’s not too far from Shanghai and it perfect for nature lovers like myself. 🏔 Along our hike we found many gorgeous reservoirs as blue as the sky, with the gorgeous mountains as a backdrop to bring it all together. 🛶 I’d suggest booking a hotel that’s in the mountains and not in the town area to get as much needed downtime as possible. 🏨 #naturalwonders #moganshan #hikingtrails

Me and my friend stayed here this weekend. The owner, Sunny and his staff, are very nice and try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They have a driver you can hire to pick you up from Shanghai and take you there and back. The room was clean, comfortable and cozy. When you book a room, breakfast is included in the room price. You have to pay between 80 to 200 RMB each for lunch and for dinner. You can tell them beforehand what you want for each meal. Sunny is very pleasant to talk to and gives top notch customer service. Good place for take a relax Part of the Tianmu Mountains, Mogan Shan is 60 km (37 mi) from Hangzhou and 200 km (124 mi) away from Shanghai (roughly a 3 hours drive). The village is now home to over 40 guesthouses, villas and hotels. Mogan Shan is an ideal place to catch some much-needed fresh air during weekend away from the city. The key is to book good accommodation in advance and to pack proper supplies for your stay—enough for late summer evening barbecues and wine. Mazes of paths cross the slopes where you might stumble upon old, deserted villas. In the past several years, abandoned 1920s-30s villas have been restored into visitor accommodations and the place has generally started to pick up. But don't expect hopping nightlife—the best you're likely to get is a bit of karaoke. At the same time, the place is not so popular as to be overrun with tacky hotels and you can still bargain for a hotel room for RMB 180. #moganshan

This place is so clean, it's unbelievable! Food is great, they serve Chinese style food, there's french fries, there's capuchino, latte, everything! The grandma (owner) was the first person to open a homestay in this village (Houwu) years ago, she still works here daily, but now her daughter is in charge. For indoor fun, there’s a spacious billiard table and an arcade set that our kids absolutely loved. We booked a children’s themed room, which came with a balcony offering stunning views of the river, mountains, and lush bamboo forests. Day 2: Hiking the Trails Moganshan is a hiker’s paradise, offering a variety of trails that cater to all levels of experience. The air is clean, fresh, and noticeably cooler than the city, making it a perfect escape. On our second day, we decided to explore the trails. We hiked for about two hours until we reached a path that was too challenging for the kids. The trails were steep, muddy, and slippery, so we decided to turn back. But the adventure wasn’t over; we vowed to return and conquer the mountain—just without the kids next time. Day 3: A Scenic Bus Ride and More Hiking On the third day, we opted for a different approach. We purchased bus tickets to go up the mountain, costing us ¥387 yuan ($54) for three adult tickets (kids under 1 meter in height ride for free). The ride offered breathtaking views of beautiful lakes, waterfalls, and amazing scenery. However, our hike was cut short again due to broken staircases that were too dangerous for the kids to pass. Later, I discovered various trail options in Moganshan. It’s a great resource for planning future hikes, and we’re already looking at trails we can tackle on our next visit. Despite the challenges, our trip to Moganshan was a resounding success. The combination of natural beauty and exceptional hospitality at Mo Yan Homestay made it a trip to remember. We’re already planning our next visit, and this time, we’ll be better prepared to conquer the trails.
