The Glenbow museum is an art and history museum located in downtown Calgary with a lovely and vast collection of local art. It's a great place to visit if you have time and you are interested in art pieces. As of recently, admission is even free so that's also a further incentive to visit. The art pieces are very interesting and meticulously done. They also mostly feature a western and nature theme, which really resonates with Calgary and western Canada as a whole. It's also highly informative as there are some history sections that tell of the overall history of the area. Overall, I think it's a great way to spend the afternoon, especially on a rainy day (like me). It's not difficult to find and if you're in downtown, spare some time for a visit; you'll be greeted with lovely pieces. I was very lucky to witness the outburst of the aurora lights back in May 11. I drove 15mins out of Calgary into the country side and waited till 12am, then the light-show began. Such a cool experience. The dinosaur is huge. We dropped by when we were heading to the Royal Tyrell Museum. There's a stair to go up to the top of the dinosaur to see the city view from its mouth. This is quite fun and an adventurous activity for kids. There are quite a few dinosaurs in the area as well. Take a quick stroll along the street and the gift store, it was quite fun to take pictures and tour around the area. Worthwhile to make a visit. #calgary #alberta #drumheller

I was here at Calgary in May, the weather was so nice. We stayed one night at Recidence Inn By Marriott Calgary, it’s really closed to downtown and including breakfast. Didn’t go many places because we arrived Calgary afternoon 2pm, and have to leave next day 1:00pm to Banff, so just quickly go around but realized many arts on the street and most of the buildings are connected together, that’s really interesting and cool. If you visit Calgary by any chance and have 1 or 2 hours to spare, don't miss the opportunity to visit this hidden gem (yet massive) building on SAIT campus. It's official title is SAIT Polytechnic Parking Garage, a 3-level, 1500 car capacity garage nestled in the hillside that's leading to the glorious 100 year old heritage hall. Wrapping with some 1400 individually unique metal panels that were manufactured with a patented technology called "Ombrae" enabling this more than 700' long unwrapped facade become the biggest canvas in North America for the art piece dubbed "Clouds". The semi perforated panels also enable the parkade to be ventilated naturally. Art meets sustainability. A football field crowns the roof and becomes the most versatile and well-used outdoor amenity space (Cohos Commons) on campus for gathering, assembly as well as casual hangout, as it offers an amazing view towards Calgary downtown. The highlight of the building is undoubtedly the glass-roofed atrium. Two elonggated triangular glass pyramid (one in reverse, upside-down fashion) bring the light down to the deep end of the building, and creates a bright welcoming entryway into the campus while offering a sneak peak to the heritage hall. The glass are supported by wood beams made with timber strand, which adds a sense of warmth to the sculptural space, especially when bathing in the sunlight with contrasting shadows. The building has garnered half-dozen awards since completion including the Mayor's Urban Design Award in Calgary, Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Award for New Design, AIBC Lieutenant-Governor of BC Merit Award, Prairie Wood Design Award and more. So don't be surprised when you encounter families taking C-trains over the weekend just to chill and hangout here.
