🌎 On World Climate Change Day, we are reminded of the devastating impacts our planet faces more than ever. More frequent and intense weather patterns are not only disrupting lives but also damaging vital infrastructure and affecting communities in profound and lasting ways. Recent floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, and other parts of the world highlight the urgent need for collective action.   🤝 At Plus Minus Engineering & Consulting, we recognize our responsibility to confront climate change head-on. We’ve contributed to the development of the Just Resilience program in one of the Western Balkan countries. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of government institutions, policymakers, and officials to implement fair and effective adaptation strategies. By focusing on better coordination, cooperation, research, and capacity building, the Just Resilience ensures that adaptation efforts address the varying vulnerabilities and exposures to climate change, helping to prevent and reduce inequalities.   🌿 However, tackling climate change is a shared responsibility. Our energy efficiency expert, Elvis Hadzikadic participated as a panelist at the "Energy Efficiency First" panel during the 5th day of SECW - Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week.   Mr. Hadžikadić emphasized that while innovation is essential in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it’s not always about new technology – it’s about changing the way we think. He highlighted how shifting our mindset can lead to better utilization of existing energy efficiency technologies but in more impactful ways. The results are easily achievable by changing our perception and prioritization of energy efficiency in everyday life and doing business.   One rhetorical question Elvis posed resonates deeply: „When you buy a car, you ensure to check the energy efficiency and fuel consumption of the vehicle, but when moving into a house or buying one, you normally do not ask about the energy efficiency and energy performance aspects of the house. After all, in our homes we spend more time every day, more than in our cars, and being aware of their efficiency and comfort should be prioritized. This needs to change“.   One of the primary challenges is to ensure that companies and individuals are fully aware of their obligations in the future and the upcoming challenges that need to be communicated more transparently. Many are still not familiar with the specific requirements arising from the state's strategy and determination, as well as the potential advantages of energy efficiency measures. Pale Powers Up with the #GreenEnergy Revolution! Big steps towards a greener future in Pale, as a €10M agreement was just signed to revamp the heating system in this municipality. The Minister of Finance and Treasury of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Srđan Amidžić, and Head of the Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (#EBRD), Ms. Manuela Naessl, MBA secured €7M loan and a €3M grant by the #Switzerland, signed by Deputy Ambassador to BiH Mr. Siroco Messerli to make this transformation happen. We're incredibly proud that we contributed to this initiative through development of the comprehensive Feasibility Study and Conceptual Design of new: ↪ 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁: A new 10 MW biomass boiler plant will be constructed, increasing the operational efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions, with back-up on natural gas. ↪ 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: The existing heating network will be reconstructed with new heating substations, reducing heat losses and connecting current and more new buildings. ↪ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: New software will optimize energy production and delivery, ensuring reliable and affordable heating. ↪ 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: A dedicated seasonal biomass storage with completely independent wood chips production which will ensure secure supply and save costs. Plus Minus Engineering & Consulting led the consortium partnering with Enova Consultants and Engineers in development of t conceptual technical design, financial, environmental and social assessments. This project is proof that bold, smart investments can bring immediate benefits to citizens while shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future. Hopefully, other municipalities will be encouraged to follow Pale’s lead, leveraging opportunities for cleaner energy solutions. 🌱
