On November 23rd, 2024, a contingent made up of various industry partners, including CEO Hadley Bourne of the Grantley Adams International Airport, proudly welcomed Delta Flight 1985 from Atlanta. With 160 passengers on board, the flight arrived to a vibrant red carpet Bajan welcome featuring Barbados’ traditional tuk band, dancers in cultural wear and gifts coordinated by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. Minister of Tourism and International Transport, The Hon. Ian Gooding Edghill, highlighted the significance of this non-stop connection to Atlanta by noting, “There is an ever-increasing interest in Barbados from travellers out of Atlanta, and the reintroduction of this service comes at a critical time ahead of the soon to be rolled out national We Gatherin Come A Long Home campaign.” He also shared, “This flight provides a seamless option for Barbadians in the diaspora and friends of Barbadians to come experience our island’s unparalleled beauty, exciting attractions, and warm hospitality.” GAIA also eagerly looks forward to December 21st, 2024, as it was revealed that Delta will also launch weekly service from JFK International Air Terminal New York, further strengthening Barbados’ connectivity to key markets. A special thanks to the entire team who helped make this moment a reality. Congratulations Delta Air Lines. We wish you continued success as you bring the world closer to our shores.

The Concorde Hangar at Grantley Adams International Airport has always been a space of wonder, and in late October 2024, it became the stage for two remarkable transformations that showcased the power of innovation and adaptability. On October 27th, the hangar hosted the Liquid Gold Feast, the grand finale of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. Barbados Food and Rum Festival. The event, an exquisite black-tie affair, brought together Barbados’ best chefs and mixologists in a gold-draped ballroom with the iconic British Airways Concorde as the dazzling centerpiece. The evening received glowing reviews, cementing its place as a highlight of the festival. Just five days later, the same space was reimagined once more—this time as the Concorde Departure Terminal for air-to-sea passengers. Combining practicality with the splendor of the Concorde, the terminal featured security screening, comfortable seating, food and beverage options, and an unparalleled ambiance. Passengers were in awe, spending their time gazing up at the phenomenal aircraft and snapping photos, turning what could have been an ordinary wait into an unforgettable experience. This creative approach was a data-driven response to rising passenger numbers and the logistics of seating and space in the main terminal. With this knowledge, the management and team at GAIA Inc. activated the transformation of the Concorde Hangar alleviating potential congestion and pressure on airport facilities while enhancing comfort for all passengers. This resulted in a smoother flow of operations and overwhelmingly positive feedback from travelers who appreciated the unique experience. #PassengerExperience #Concorde #GAIA #innovation #adaptation

At GAIA, delivering exceptional service quality and ensuring the safety and security of our passengers and staff are top of mind. As a member of the Airports Council International - Latin America and Caribbean - ACI LAC, we leverage the globally recognized Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program to continually measure, assess, and improve our performance. For Q2 2024, we are proud to report a safety and security score of 4.28 out of a possible 5, and we attribute this score to the hard work and commitment of our teams. This achievement reflects our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment through proactive measures and continuous training. One of the key contributors to this success has been our recent updates to the airport's emergency evacuation plan, ensuring that we are fully prepared to respond efficiently in the event of an emergency. To support this, we hosted comprehensive training sessions for our Fire Safety Wardens, equipping them with the latest knowledge in emergency response readiness, communication efficiency, and evacuation procedure management. We extend our gratitude to Divisional Officer Patrick Edwards, who leads all stations in the Southern Division of the Barbados Fire Service, and our Safety Manager, Christopher King, for their leadership in these critical sessions. Their expertise has helped strengthen our readiness and reinforce our commitment to safety. Measures such as these ensure that GAIA remains a leading hub for excellence in passenger experience. #gaiabarbados #asq #safetyintheworkplace #firesafetywardens

🛩 It was a pleasure to be able to raise awareness about Air Traffic Control and the crucial role we play in Tourism. ✈ 🛫 Air traffic controllers play a critical role in ensuring the safety of millions of passengers every day. Increasing public awareness helps people understand the complexity of their job and its direct impact on air safety. A well-informed public may also better appreciate aviation safety measures, leading to increased trust in the aviation system. 🛬 #ATC #ANS #aviation #guardiansofthesky

In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Month in September, we’ve lit our building purple, the colour which is associated with the disease, to assist the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association in raising awareness. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, and it is a progressive disease that affects memory thinking, and behaviour. The number of people currently living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of Dementia is 55 million worldwide, and by 2050, this number is expected to increase to 131 million. In the Caribbean region, the number of sufferers is 328,000, and this number will increase to 1 million. In Barbados, the number was estimated to be 4078 in 2014, we believe this number has increased dramatically due to our aging population. The team at GAIA is also expressing sincere condolences to the family, friends, and members of the Barbados Alzheimers Association on the recent passing of the association's president, Pamelia Brereton. May she rest in peace.💜 #alzheimers #alzheimersawareness #alzheimersawarenessmonth #alzheimerscaregiversupport #Barbados

Our 2024 summer internship program has come to an end. Thanks to the HR Department, we celebrated with a special appreciation ceremony hosted by Corporate Communications Specialist Sharleen Browne, which featured remarks from CEO Hadley Bourne, HR Manager Muriel Davis, and Duty Manager Gaynelle Corbin-Smith. Following their reflections on how the interns performed in their roles and their inspirational comments about future opportunities, the interns received their well-deserved certificates. A few of the interns came forward to share their experiences, and every contribution reflected how blown away they were by the behind-the-scenes hustle and what it takes to keep an airport running smoothly! We’re so proud of our interns and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next. Best of luck, class of 2024! #summerintership #gaiabarbados #bgi #barbados

Back to School is around the corner and our HR team made sure the children of our staff members who were moving on to secondary schools were recognized for their amazing efforts in the Common Entrance Examination. Featured speaker Marcus Myers gave an inspiring presentation and encouraged the students to step up, speak up and move boldly forward in pursuit of their goals. 13 students were recognized at the celebration and we wish them all the best as they transition to their new schools.
