The age of steel rebar for use as a concrete reinforcement is over. New material technologies in composite GFRP rebar will eventually replace almost all steel rebar use which will virtually eliminate concrete degradation.

World's largest GFRP rebar project underway in Saudi Arabia with over 11,000km supplied. "Although GFRP rebar has been around for 30-40 years, says Crofts, key projects like the Jizan Flood Channel are now propelling it into mainstream infrastructure." GFRP rebar is the concrete reinforcement material of the future. Say no to steel. https://lnkd.in/e2t_mRm

Why is steel rebar becoming an obsolete concrete reinforcement material, especially in coastal zones like the #Caribbean? Corrosion starts before its installed and then accelerates from exposure to salt water and sea spray. 100% non-corrosive GFRP composite rebar has twice the tensile strength and is much easier to install as it weighs only 1.6 lbs per standard bar.
