The 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival was launched at Dhaka Club with a two-day long conference titled "Eleventh Dhaka International Conference on Women in Cinema 2025" organised by RAINBOW FILM SOCIETY in collaboration with ActionAid Bangladesh. The event aimed to elevate women-based cinema and foster collaboration among women in the film industry. Our Country Director, Farah Kabir, shared her valuable insights on the role of policy in creating progressive, inclusive films that represent all genders. In a small, picturesque village nestled beside a winding river, Amina grew up with big dreams but limited means. At just 10 years old, she was already a pillar of strength for her family, helping her mother weave baskets to earn a meager living. Despite the hardships, Amina cherished her time at school, where she eagerly soaked up knowledge and dreamed of a brighter future. But life had other plans. A devastating flood swept through her village one monsoon, destroying their home and leaving her family in despair. Struggling to rebuild their lives, Amina’s parents made the heartbreaking decision to pull her out of school. They needed her to work and contribute to the family’s survival. For Amina, it felt like her world was crumbling. Then, ActionAid came into her life. Through the Support a Child initiative, Amina was given a second chance. She received a safe learning environment, tuition support, and the encouragement she needed to pursue her education. She joined ActionAid’s Child Development Centre where she discovered her voice and her potential. From painting to public speaking, Amina began to shine in ways she never imagined. Today, Amina is back in school, excelling in her studies, and dreaming of becoming a teacher. She wants to give other children in her village the same chance she was given- to inspire hope and ignite dreams. Amina’s story is a testament to the transformative power of support and community.
