Recently, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)-funded Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Bangladesh Centrality of Protection in Protracted Crises (CPPC) Consortium (CARE, Oxfam, and Plan) welcomed a delegation from the Australian High Commission, including the Deputy High Commissioner, to visit the interventions for the camps and local communities in Cox’s Bazar. The DFAT-funded Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Bangladesh Centrality of Protection in Protracted Crises (CPPC) Consortium (CARE, Oxfam, and Plan) is working in Cox’s Bazar District to improve the lives of people living in the camps and local populations affected by the influx. In collaboration with Plan International and Oxfam in Bangladesh, the activities are focused on Disaster Risk Reduction, Education, Livelihood, Protection, and WASH activities implemented by the local and national partners. CARE Australia's Bianca Collier and Shane Brady recently returned from a visit to Cox's Bazar, to learn about the progress of one of our key Bangladesh programmes. Cox's Bazar remains home to the world's largest refugee camp, which hosts hundreds of thousands of ethnic Rohingyas who fled Myanmar. CARE has been working in partnership with Oxfam and Plan, as part of the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Bangladesh Centrality of Protection in Protracted Crises (CPPC) Consortium, funded by DFAT. Recently, we had the honour to host a delegation from the Australian High Commission, including the Deputy High Commissioner, to meet our program participants in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. The Deputy High Commissioner expressed his solidarity with the project participants and satisfaction with implementing context-appropriate interventions taken under the DFAT-funded consortiums – led by CARE and SAVE. In collaboration with Plan International and Oxfam in Bangladesh, the activities are focused on Disaster Risk Reduction, Education, Livelihood, Protection, and WASH activities implemented by the local and national partners.     Organised by CARE Bangladesh, the AHP Support Unit (AHPSU) from the DFAT led a cross-consortium workshop in Cox’s Bazar recently with CARE (CARE, Oxfam, and Plan) and SAVE consortiums. The discussion revolved around the progress of the activities and support required for creating ample impact.  Jason Brown (Partnership Director) and Laura Holbeck (Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Manager) of AHPSU led the workshop. A delegation from the Australian High Commission, including the First Secretary – Humanitarian, was present at the workshop, along with Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC). Every change begins with a single step. When we ignore or take part in violence, we set off a cycle of injustice. At first, we think it won’t touch our lives. Until it does. Because injustice never stays contained. It spreads, affecting our lives, families, and communities. To break this cycle, the H&M Foundation-funded Oporajita project—Collective Impact on the Future of Work in Bangladesh—launched a campaign to raise awareness about violence against women & girls. Led by CARE Bangladesh’s Enabling Environment component, the campaign ran in four RMG factories from February 10 to 19, 2025. The campaign wasn’t just planned for the women garment workers, it was shaped with them. We did not chase perfection; we focused on progress. Drama, pot song (folk storytelling), mime, and public service announcements turned the campaign into an experience and workers watched, listened, and responded with energy. Women garment workers deeply connected with the messages. For men workers and factory management, it was a call to take responsibility and play their part in ending violence against women & girls at home and work. Every step matters. CARE Bangladesh hosted a Design & Learning Workshop for the Women Lead in Emergencies (WLiE) project. The event featured key stakeholders, including donor representative Bénédicte GINESTET (Agence Française de Développement) and senior CARE Bangladesh leaders. Rawnak Jahan, Director of Women & Youth Empowerment Program, emphasized the importance of women's participation in emergencies, while Mohammed Mehrul Islam, Senior Director of IDEAL, highlighted the project's potential to enhance women's leadership in crisis response. The 10-day workshop brought together 20 experts from Agence Française de Développement, CARE France, CARE International UK, Institute of Development Studies and JAGO NARI to tailor the WLiE methodology to Bangladesh’s context. Discussions focused on amplifying women's voices in emergency planning, addressing local challenges in areas like Barguna, and strengthening partnerships for sustainable impact.

"No one wants women to be leaders in our society." – A male participant’s words reflect the deep-rooted perception of women’s leadership among the Rohingya community in Bhasan Char. More than 70% of both Rohingya women and men believe women are not suitable for leadership roles—a result of entrenched gender norms and limited educational opportunities. CARE Bangladesh’s Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA), in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), explores how gender roles, livelihoods, and protection concerns are evolving in Bhasan Char, highlighting key challenges and the impact of ration cuts. CARE Bangladesh organized a learning-sharing workshop under the Oporajita-Collective Impact on the Future of Work in Bangladesh project on January recently. Funded by the H&M Foundation, this 24-month initiative aimed to holistically address challenges to women’s future employment and drive transformative changes for industries, the workforce, and communities. The project focused on equipping women garment workers to thrive in a future marked by increasing digitization.   The workshop featured interactive sessions that highlighted key learnings, shared experiences, gathered feedback on interventions, and identified areas requiring further attention. It concluded with actionable recommendations to guide the way forward.   The primary contributors to the event were women garment workers, community members, factory committee representatives, factory management, consortium partners, and the project team.
