The National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh (NBR) has reportedly reinstated the value-added tax (VAT) exemption on Dhaka metro rail fares, which have gained significant popularity since the service began operations. 👉 The NBR issued an order yesterday announcing the exemption, marking a return to the benefit more than six months after it had been discontinued. 👉 Metro rail commuters had previously enjoyed VAT exemptions on fares until June 30 of last year. Expatriates have legally sent remittances to over 4 million unique bKash Limited accounts of their loved ones back home, making cross-border transactions more seamless and reliable. In 2024, expatriates sent 65% more remittances through bKash compared to 2023, playing a vital role in strengthening the nation’s foreign exchange reserves. Currently, expatriates from over 140 countries can transfer remittances through 110 international Money Transfer Operators (MTOs). These funds are instantly settled into recipients’ bKash accounts via 25 leading commercial banks in Bangladesh.
