🌊✨ RoBenDevs Cox's Bazar Refreshment Tour: A Trip to Remember! ✨🌊 RoBenDevs recently treated our amazing engineering team to an unforgettable 2-night refreshment tour to Cox's Bazar! 🏝️ Though we missed a few of our teammates who couldn’t join, the rest of us had an absolute blast making memories together! 😄 We stayed at the beautiful Ocean Paradise, with some of us even bringing our families along for extra fun! 🏨💼 From beach football ⚽ to exciting card games ♠️ in the hotel, the energy was through the roof. We also held 4 fun games, crowned 4 champions 🏅, and RoBenDevs surprised the winners with special gifts 🎁🎉. To add to the adventure, we feasted on mouth-watering seafood 🦀 and enjoyed a delicious BBQ 🍢. 🚀 Technical Knowledge Sharing: Local DevOps Setup with Proxmox, Docker, Kubernetes & NGINX 🚀 💯 Today’s session, led by Kazi Shiplu, focused on how we successfully set up a Local Dev server using Proxmox, Docker, Kubernetes, and NGINX on physical machines to reduce our AWS costs while gaining full control over our development environment. 🎯 The Goal: We wanted to build an in-house DevOps environment to handle testing and deployment, eliminating the need for expensive AWS resources. This local setup gives us the flexibility to scale, test, and manage services without relying on cloud services. 🎯 How We Did It: - Proxmox: We used Proxmox to virtualize our physical machines, providing a robust and scalable base to run multiple virtual environments efficiently for different development tasks. - Docker: Applications were containerized using Docker, ensuring consistency and isolated environments across different services, making local development closely resemble our production environment. - Kubernetes: Kubernetes was deployed on Proxmox to orchestrate Docker containers. It managed pods, service discovery, and service-to-service communication, allowing us to scale services internally without relying on external resources. - NGINX Ingress: We implemented NGINX as the ingress controller to handle traffic routing, load balancing, and SSL termination for Kubernetes services, providing a seamless way to manage external access to our applications. - CI/CD with Bitbucket Pipelines: Automated deployments were integrated with our local setup using Bitbucket CI/CD pipelines, ensuring quick iteration cycles and reliable software delivery. 🔑 Key Benefits: - Cost Efficiency: We reduced ongoing cloud costs by shifting development entirely to local infrastructure. - Full Control & Customization: Gained complete control over our hardware, software, and configurations, allowing for full customization without cloud provider limitations. - Hands-On Learning: Setting up this system from scratch gave us deep knowledge of how to manage local DevOps environments with Proxmox, Docker, and Kubernetes. 🚧 Challenges & Next Steps: Of course, there are cons—maintaining the local infrastructure requires continuous effort, and scaling might bring more complexities. However, we’re committed to working on these challenges side by side and improving our in-house system. The session was highly interactive, with the team asking great questions about Docker, Kubernetes pods, service discovery, and the nuances of service-to-service communication. 🎊 Big thanks to Kazi Shiplu for leading the initiative and sharing valuable insights.
