🚀 Exciting milestone for #phages! INFARMED, I.P. has officially approved the use of phage therapy in Portugal. This groundbreaking decision allows #phagetherapy to be deployed not only to save lives but also to help reduce healthcare costs in Portuguese hospitals. With this move, Portugal becomes one of the pioneers worldwide in regulating the use of bacteriophages to combat #antibioticresistant infections — a new hope for many patients. Congrats, Portugal for leading the way!

#Phage presents a promising solution to combat the silent pandemic of #AMR. In recognition of World AMR Awareness Week (November 18-24, 2024), we are proud to #showcase one of our #posters on this vital topic at icddr,b. This work was completed at the icddr,b Genome Centre, and we extend our gratitude to all authors who contributed to this effort. We are thrilled to share great news: our abstract, "Bacterial MLST is a Critical Determinant in the Success of Personalized Phage Therapy for Combating the AMR Crisis," has been accepted for presentation as a lightning talk at the 17th ASCODD (www.ascodd2024.org). The development of generic #phage therapy is really challenging, while #personalized #phage_therapy could be a better solution. Just read the recent article published in Nature Portfolio, to get some insight on how fascinating is it! But for conducting personalized phage therapy we need a well-established phage #biobank; and iPHaGe of icddr,b Genome Centre is working on it. We are also facing some challenges but will overcome them through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Looking forward to collaborating for phage research in #Bangladesh. Bacteriophages are highly host-specific; right? However, we have identified lytic phages against Klebsiella pneumoniae, capable of lysing at least 12 distinct bacterial species in vitro! Isn't it fascinating! Here is the link to our recent paper https://lnkd.in/gF9Tf_YT
