Driven by an ardent belief in the possibilities of modern architecture and a keen curiosity about building physics

About us

A2M is an international practice driven by an ardent belief in the possibilities of modern architecture and a keen curiosity about building physics, our interdisciplinary team shapes A2M’s prospective vision of a sustainable future for our built environment. Since its founding in 2000, A2M has dedicated itself towards making our world more livable by championing quality, contemporary architecture while maintaining high environmental standards. Because of our expertise in constructing zero-energy and carbon-neutral buildings, we became a lead policy consultant for the Brussels regional government. The firm largely contributed in making Brussels the first city in the world to implement Passive House standards into the city's Code. Our team of architects and engineers stands out by giving high-quality, environmentally-conscious training to architects, engineers and builders, while publishing our lessons learned from our projects throughout Europe, Africa and USA (M2A). Although all A2M's projects achieve passive house performance (and for some also Net Zero Energy, Carbon Neutral, Exemplary Building, or Breeam) most are priced at an equivalent or lower price than standard market. A2M's trade mark is to achieve better quality for a standard price. A2M's team is composed of architects, engineer architects and thermal engineers. All trained specifically in different aspects of sustainable development, passive design, natural light analysis as well as dynamic simulation. These skills gathered under one roof enable us to combine the economic with the exemplary dimensions in each of our projects. - all A2M's projects are Passive House and/or Net Zero Energy - 3 offices: A2M Brussels | A2M Lisbon | M2A NYC - 19 Exemplary Building awards - 4 Breeam buildings - 1 MIPIM award

  • The Linné-Plantes project by A2M Architecture has just been published in a new book by DETAIL Business Information GmbH titled: Building in Existing Contexts. This project, designed about ten years ago and completed in 2018, is a pioneer in sustainable building in the holistic sense of the term. Timber-frame construction, preservation and renovation of existing concrete structures, an ultra-high-performance building envelope, green roofs, rainwater management, spacious terraces for every unit, passive measures to prevent overheating, building-integrated photovoltaic panels, biobased construction materials, and shared facilities — you name it, it is all there, and long before adaptive reuse, circularity, and 'good living' became common topics of discussion. We are proud to see this project published alongside a range of other projects of international acclaim. Designing with climate, nature, and people as drivers: that is the essence of A2M's practice. This building is a prime example of that. More info: https://lnkd.in/dAGHpDDv

  • On month ago witnessed the inauguration of the CityGate 1 - Marchandises project in Anderlecht, Brussels. A mixed-use urban block featuring housing, workshops for productive activities, a daycare center, offices, retail spaces, a multi-level inner courtyard, and an underground parking garage. The project, which we designed in 2018 in collaboration with Urban Platform and ORG, Permanent Modernity for Kairos nv and Galère, was the winning proposal in a competition organized by citydev.brussels and BMA - Bouwmeester Maitre Architecte. Realized amidst Covid, PFAS, and rising construction material prices — none of it made the process easier! Despite these challenges, we succeeded in achieving the original design, which includes a 'multi-purpose building' engineered to accommodate a variety of future uses. It is a building that will stand the test of time.  At A2M Architecture, we are proud of the result and happy to have contributed to the renewal of this part of Brussels with a project that dares to face the climatic, social, and urban challenges of tomorrow head-on.

🚀 CityGate I - Goederen ingehuldigd: Wonen, werken en groeien in Anderlecht! ✏️ Urban Platform A2M Architecture ORG, Permanent Modernity 📷: ©Kairos & citydev.brussels #durable #développement #urbain #CityGate #Bruxelles #innovation #Anderlecht   Rudi Vervoort Benjamin Cadranel Fabrice Cumps Wim Straetmans

The WELL certification stands out for its unique focus on occupant well-being, going beyond environmental considerations. Here's how:   💧🔌 While also addressing environmental concerns, the core of WELL lies in enhancing the quality of life for occupants. By emphasizing assessments categories such as 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 and 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, WELL certification ensures buildings contribute positively to the 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 and 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 of their users.   🌿🌍 By advocating for construction and operational practices that prioritize health and well-being, the WELL certification fosters the development of buildings that not only sustain the environment but also nurture the individuals within them. It delves into comprehensive assessments, including air quality, water purity, lighting, soundscapes, and thermal comfort, ensuring spaces that promote optimal human health. 📈💼 As part of the WELL certification process, with assessments ranging from 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗲 to 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘂𝗺 levels, ambitious sustainability goals can be achieved, encompassing energy efficiency, building sustainability, and occupant comfort. At DUSS, we specialize in 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 within the WELL certification spectrum, collaborating closely with professionals such as M&E engineers, architects, acousticians, and more.
