[PRESS RELEASE] Today at the Airports Innovate conference in Rome, EUROCONTROL, in collaboration with ACI EUROPE, have released Adapting Aviation to a Changing Climate - Briefing. This factsheet – presented by Marylin Bastin (Head of Sustainability at EUROCONTROL) and Alexandre de Joybert (Director of Sustainability at ACI EUROPE) identifies some of the key effects and impacts of climate change for airports, ANSPs and airlines and provides a starting point for carrying out a climate change risk assessment. Whilst airports proactively strive to decarbonise and reach net zero by 2050, climate change effects are a present issue. Climate-related disruption is already more extreme and frequent, impacting aviation today. This factsheet intends to provide airports with a solid outline of the climate risks each region may experience, and a recommended method by which airports can get started with their own climate risk assessment and subsequent adaptation. Huge congratulations to Emanuele Calà, SVP Technology and Transformation at Aeroporti di Roma for winning this year's Best Airport Innovation Leader Award! 🏆 An immensely well-deserved prize for the brain behind Aeroporti di Roma's Open Innovation concept, which provided the platform for ADR's collaboration with over 50 global start-ups, as well as one of the founding members of our very own ACI EUROPE Innovation and Technology Forum of which he is Vice-Chair, bringing this innovation know-how and experience to the benefit of the whole European airport industry. For the fourth year running, the ACI World - Airports Council International and Amadeus prestigious Technology Innovation Awards, celebrate the outstanding airport technology initiatives and leadership that are shaping the future of air transport. In his thank-you speech, Calà dedicated the award “to the frontline colleagues who work closely with passengers every day,” highlighting their fundamental role in achieving the Skytrax 5-star rating. An accolade that “represents more than an individual success – it is the celebration of the collective spirit of innovation we have built at Aeroporti di Roma thanks to the strategic vision of our Group leader, Mundys.” “Among the main achievements in this area by Aeroporti di Roma,” Calà concluded, “are the creation of the Innovation Hub at the heart of Terminal 1 at Fiumicino Airport, the ‘Runway to the Future’ acceleration program that has attracted more than 1,000 international startups over three years, the establishment of the “Airports for Innovation” network comprising 10 airports representing around 1 billion passengers worldwide, and the launch of ADR Ventures, the proprietary Corporate Venture Capital fund through which ADR invests, after testing, in the most promising startups globally.” Find out more about the Award winners: https://shorturl.at/rHfWu Olivier Jankovec Marco Troncone Luc Laveyne Pablo Lopez Loeches

ACI EUROPE reposted this
As the new European Commission has just been confirmed by the European Parliament and will take office as of 1 December, we at ACI EUROPE very much look forward to engaging and working closely with its new leadership - in particular with Apostolos Tzitzikostas, incoming Commissioner for Transport and Tourism. Airports and the air connectivity they facilitate are essential for Europe’s competitiveness, global position and cohesion. That needs to be not just recognised, but actually supported with more effective policies and regulations - both at EU and national level. In fact it is high time to connect the dots - and that means: 1. Ensure aviation gets not just sticks but also carrots, so that we can decarbonise while protecting the unique economic and social benefits of air connectivity for our economy and citizens. That requires a true EU SAF industrial policy, but also ensuring airports are able to meet their €360 billion investment needs and preserving operating aid for smaller regional airports (EC State Aid Guidelines). 2. Safeguard and reinforce the integrity of our Single Aviation Market. This is were reforming airport slots rules is crucial, along with keeping our skies open. 3. Enable resilient, digitised and green airports. Airports’ green energy needs must be factored in EU & national energy policies, so we can prepare for the deployment of zero emission aircraft (as per the AZEA Vision). We also need to keep EU financing for aviation - while doing away with regulatory impediments to innovation (think restrictions to deploying biometrics or limitations to new security scanning technology…). #EU #sustainableconnectivity #competitiveness #cohesion
