Final Day of our Belgium Startup Trip: What a Bang! 🚀 Yesterday, we wrapped up the third and final day of our trip with incredible insights and experiences. We kicked off with a visit to Jay 🎤, a company empowering B2B marketers by making it easy to capture authentic insights from every level of an organization and transform them into high-quality, scalable content in the company’s unique tone of voice. Afterward, we toured the Wintercircus Ghent 🎪, where we learned about its fascinating history, evolving from a circus to a thriving tech startup ecosystem. Our next stop was TechWolf 🐺, a fast-growing scaleup specializing in AI-driven skills intelligence solutions that help companies understand and maximize their workforce's skills. We then headed to Toqua 🌊, a startup focused on sustainability in the maritime industry through fuel efficiency innovations, where Emma Hanegraef, AFT alumna, warmly welcomed us and shared valuable insights from her journey. Later in the day, we visited Aikido Security 🥋, a tech company that streamlines software development. Here, we attended a dynamic panel hosted by Syndicate One 💼, a network supporting early-stage startup investments. In the evening, Nathan De Troyer, Event Lead of Ghent Slush'D and a former member of AFT, ran a hands-on workshop on fundraising essentials, sharing key dos and don’ts for startups seeking funding. We wrapped up our inspiring three-day journey back at the Wintercircus with a final drink 🥂, closing an unforgettable experience filled with learning, growth, and new insights into Belgium’s vibrant tech startup ecosystem! Big thanks to Hendrik Cuylaerts and Savio Roofthoofd for organizing this awesome trip, and to all the participants for being such a cool group! 🎉👏

Starting the Day with a Belgian Unicorn!🦄 The second day of the Belgium Startup Trip began with a visit to the headquarters of Deliverect, one of Belgium’s four unicorns. We received a full office tour, a company presentation, and had an inspiring conversation with Zhong Xu. He shared valuable insights on what it takes to build a unicorn company and the journey involved. Following Deliverect, we visited Mace, a company with a mission to support founders in key areas through four pillars: 1) Co-founder alignment, 2) Fundraising, 3) Stock options, and 4) Exit strategy (potential buyers). In an interactive workshop, we explored the importance of aligning with co-founders, key agreements to establish, essential considerations for founders, how to protect oneself legally as a business owner, and steps to take when agreements aren’t followed or a shareholder wishes to exit. After our session with Mace, we welcomed two startup founders from Thrive and Powerhouse. In a brief but engaging panel, they shared valuable insights from their own startup journeys and challenges. Our final stop was Voka-Vlaams netwerk van ondernemingen Gent, where we received an introduction to VOKA Gent and the resources they offer to entrepreneurial students. Here, we also had the chance to meet with two more founders, from Jurimesh and Companion.energy, who each shared their experiences and provided an in-depth look at their respective companies. The day was filled with inspiration and learning, providing us with a deeper understanding of Ghent''s vibrant startup ecosystem.
