🙌 New member alert: Dr. Henry Paridaens recently joined All.Can Belgium! He is also joining our Lung Cancer Working Group. Dr. Paridaens is a clinical biologist and head of the molecular biology laboratory at Hôpital Citadelle, specializing in a.o. molecular biology and next-generation sequencing oncology (solid tumors). He is also a member of the hospital's transfusion committee and head of the laboratory's quality unit. 🔬 Molecular biological diagnostic tests allow for highly targeted detection of mutations in cancer cell genes, either gene by gene or across a large number of genes simultaneously through next-generation sequencing. These increasingly precise diagnostics play a crucial role in the further personalization of cancer treatments. “There is still significant progress to be made in cancer diagnostics and treatment,” says Dr. Paridaens optimistically. “However, to bring these innovations to patients, it is important for the different experts and stakeholders to collaborate. That’s why I am very pleased to join the multistakeholder initiative All.Can Belgium.” Thank you and welcome, Dr. Paridaens! #cancercare #diagnostics #oncology #molecularbiology

🙏 Good news for women in Belgium: starting January 1, 2025, the molecular #HPV test will be reimbursed for #cervicalcancer screening! (The human papillomavirus is one of the primary causes of cervical cancer.) Compared to the traditional cytology currently used as a diagnostic tool, the HPV test is a significant step forward. It allows for the detection of cervical cancer at an earlier stage, enabling patients to receive care sooner and significantly improving their prognosis. As a multi-stakeholder organization committed to enhancing the efficiency of cancer care, we are very happy with this new development. It is an important step forward, primarily for women but also for our healthcare system as a whole. 👉 Meanwhile, we continue to advocate for higher HPV vaccination rates in Belgium, both for girls and boys. HPV is not only responsible for cervical cancer but is also linked to many other cancers affecting men and women. Through vaccination, we can eradicate the most dangerous types of HPV, preventing thousands of people each year from developing cancer. ℹ You can read the press release on cervical cancer screening on the website of federal minister of Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke: - in Dutch: https://lnkd.in/e5MjBiAQ - in French: https://lnkd.in/eUZcDfbq #humanpapillomavirus #cancercare #cancerscreening #diagnostics https://lnkd.in/eTQV-t6x

There are many misconceptions about lung cancer. Yes, quitting smoking may seem pointless if you already have lung cancer. But even in advanced lung cancer, quitting smoking reduces the risk of complications, infections, cardiovascular disease and other cancers. 📉 During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the “Clear the Air on Lung Cancer” campaign calls for more awareness, less stigma and early detection of this disease. Can you debunk the other myths surrounding lung cancer? 😶🌫️ 🌐 https://lnkd.in/esevHAd4 #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #ClearTheAirOnLungCancer

‘Ten years ago, I started the project ‘Een teer onderwerp voor nicotieners’ (A tar subject for nicoteenagers),’ says prof. Filip Lardon (Universiteit Antwerpen). ‘With the project, we warn young people in the third and fourth year of secondary school about the consequences of smoking. For the last two years, I've even been visiting primary schools.’ 💬 Read the full interview with Filip Lardon here: https://lnkd.in/ekT_py8j #ClearTheAirOnLungCancer #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #lungcancer #interview

There are many misconceptions about lung cancer. Yes, more than half of patients in Belgium are men. But those figures are changing: while the risk is decreasing in men, it’s increasing in women. 👵🏼 During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the “Clear the Air on Lung Cancer” campaign calls for more awareness, less stigma and early detection of this disease. ‘Lung cancer is not only treated with chemotherapy,’ prof. em. Paul Van Schil (Universiteit Antwerpen, UZA) explains. ‘For small tumours, we have evolved to minimally invasive procedures, where only small incisions need to be made to insert flexible cameras and instruments.’ 💬 Read the full interview with Paul Van Schil here: https://lnkd.in/em8Gibqt #ClearTheAirOnLungCancer #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #lungcancer #interview
