What a headline 🫨 No country in the world affords women the same opportunities as men in the workforce, according to a new report from The World Bank. All over the world, including Europe, discriminatory laws and practices prevent women from working or starting businesses on an equal footing. The global gender gap is far wider than previously thought. Report author Tea Trumbic says childcare and safety issues particularly affected women’s ability to work. Sexual harassment at work isn’t just a statistic. It’s a crisis. 🚨 30.8% of women in the EU have reported sexual harassment at work, with 4.3% in the past year. Reported cases vary widely, from over 50% in Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, and Luxembourg to around 12% in Portugal, Bulgaria, and Latvia. Building connections matters more than ever 💪🏽💛 Our colleagues Maria Cipriani and Valentina D'Arrigo visited our grantee partners and other stakeholders in Ireland to listen, learn and connect. 👩🏿💻 AkiDwA is breaking barriers for migrant women by helping them access decent jobs through trainings, CV reviews, and interview preparation. 🏳️🌈 ShoutOut is expanding LGBTQI+ workplace inclusion in schools, universities and workplaces, creating more supportive spaces. 👩💼 We also met with Women for Election, which inspires and equips women to succeed in Irish politics. Seeing the work firsthand and hearing stories in person reminded us why real connections matter, now more than ever: 1️⃣ To understand shifting circumstances. 2️⃣ To meet the grassroots movement. 3️⃣ To identify evolving challenges. 4️⃣ To see the real impact. 5️⃣ To build trust.
