I was delighted and honored to be invited to give a talk at the Carnot Commemorative Session during the Herrick Conferences at Purdue University. In 2024, we are celebrating the 200-year anniversary of a book that has since been recognized as the foundation of the second law of thermodynamics. Putting our research into perspective in light of Carnot's main messages stressed how crucial the latter still are when designing thermal systems: temperature lifts, glides, pinch points, working fluids, compressor versus cycle, re(in)versibility of machines. For those interested, I am sharing my presentation entitled "From Sadi Carnot to Carnot batteries": https://lnkd.in/ewEDCj_v Thank you to Dr. Eckhard A. Groll, Jim Braun and Davide Ziviani for the invitation and congratulations again on the great conferences you've organized. Also, I inform it is still possible to submit an abstract for the Belgian Symposium of Thermodynamics we are organizing in Liège in December. www.carnot2024.uliege.be #Carnot #Thermodynamics #Purdue #HerrickLaboratories #heatpump #ORC #CarnotBattery #DECAGONE #REPTES #SEHRENE EU #WeForming #REGENby2

I'm delighted to invite you to attend this Symposium to discover how important thermodynamics is today in the current context of energy transition. Thermodynamics orients the design of materials, components and systems; it enables the coupling of heat, electricity, and fuel sectors; it imposes constraints; offers many opportunities, while still presenting challenges. Two hundreds years after the publication of Carnot’s book, thermodynamics remains a central pillar in the training of engineers. Coupled to younger disciplines, thermodynamics is useful to develop techniques that address society’s needs. This three-day Symposium will be an opportunity to explore the activities of Belgian research groups. In addition to the Symposium, interactive international poster sessions will be organized and researchers from around the world are warmly welcome to present their works. It is possible to either present the poster as a work-in-progress or to write a companion paper. I look forward to seeing you in Liège (Belgium) from December 16th to 18th, 2024. #thermodynamics #energy #energytransition #Carnot
