🆕 The European Commission’s new Vision for Agriculture and Food outlines a forward-looking strategy for the sector up to 2040. ➕ It includes many positive developments, from reinforcing #FairTrade and promoting collaboration in policymaking, to recognising the key role of #livestock, strengthening Europe’s protein supply and extending labeling of origin for agricultural products. ✅ At AVEC, we support this direction and welcome the commitment to a #competitive, #sustainable, and #resilient agri-food sector. 📅 Yesterday, AVEC joined seven other EU agri-food associations in a meeting with Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen to discuss the revision of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. 🙏 We appreciate the Commissioner’s openness to dialogue and his recognition of the challenges faced by #EUFarmers and food producers. 🎯 While supporting Ukraine remains a priority, ensuring #FairCompetition and market stability is essential. ✅ Predictability in trade policy, ✅ safeguarding sensitive sectors, and ✅ aligning with EU standards must be key considerations moving forward. 🤝 Thank you, Commissioner Christophe Hansen, for the valuable exchange. 🌍📢 JOINT STATEMENT 📢🌍 As the European Commission prepares to present its objectives to the Council of the European Union on future trade negotiations with Ukraine, EU agricultural associations of key affected sectors call for a carefully balanced approach to any potential further trade liberalisation. ⚠️While supporting Ukraine in these challenging times remains important, any revised agreement must account for the cumulative pressures facing sensitive EU sectors (cereals, seeds, sugar, poultry, eggs, ethanol, honey), especially in the wake of the recently announced EU-Mercosur agreement. 🎯We urge the European Commission, European Parliament, and Member States to develop a trade framework that acknowledges the significant pressure our sector is facing (with Mercosur quantities, 9% of EU poultry meat consumption is projected to come from 3rd countries) and safeguards the interests of European agriculture.
