📊 Het rapport 2023 van het Bevolkingsonderzoek Borstkanker: Een belangrijke update voor Vlaanderen In opdracht van de Vlaamse overheid organiseert het Centrum voor Kankeropsporing (CvKO) sinds 2001 het Bevolkingsonderzoek Borstkanker (BVO BK). Dit onderzoek biedt gratis screeningsmammografieën aan vrouwen van 50 t.e.m. 69 jaar om borstkanker vroegtijdig op te sporen. Het rapport over 2023 is binnen en toont interessante cijfers en inzichten: 🔹 Dekkingsgraad: 65,6% van de doelgroep liet een screeningsmammografie uitvoeren. 🔹 Kwaliteit gegarandeerd: 99,6% van de resultaten werd binnen 14 dagen meegedeeld. 🔹 Detectie: 1135 borstkankers werden in 2023 gevonden bij deelnemende vrouwen, waarvan 926 bij vrouwen met eerdere deelname en 209 bij nieuwe deelnemers. 🔹 Vervolgonderzoek: Meer dan 90% van de vrouwen met een afwijkend resultaat onderging vervolgonderzoek binnen twee maanden. 👉 Impact van het bevolkingsonderzoek Uit recent onderzoek blijkt dat deelname aan het BVO BK het risico op overlijden aan borstkanker met 51% verlaagt. Dit onderstreept de levensreddende kracht van vroegdetectie. ⚠️ Aandachtspunten De jongste doelgroep (50-54 jaar) neemt minder deel. 14,5% van de doelgroep heeft nog nooit deelgenomen, ook niet buiten het BVO BK. Dienstverlening in bepaalde mobiele eenheden kan verbeterd worden (bijvoorbeeld meer openingsuren). 📌 Onze oproep: Vrouwen van 50 t.e.m. 69 jaar: maak gebruik van dit waardevolle programma! Treatment typically involves a combination of systemic therapies like chemotherapy and targeted therapy, along with local treatments such as surgery and radiation. 🎭 Borst Vooruit: A Powerful and Unforgettable Evening with Pia Naber In November, we had the privilege of attending Borst Vooruit, a remarkable performance by Pia Naber. This cabaret-style production stood out for its unique and deeply personal approach. Pia shared her journey as a breast cancer patient with sharp storytelling and impactful songs, but what truly set the evening apart was her collaboration on stage with her actual breast surgeon Frits van den Wildenberg and her own children. Accompanied by Erwin on piano and Matthias on percussion, Pia explored themes such as the patient-doctor relationship, shared decision-making, navigating medical protocols, and the emotional rollercoaster of a breast cancer diagnosis. Her performance was equal parts moving, insightful, and thought-provoking. We were inspired by Pia's ability to transform personal experiences into a performance that resonates with so many. Even more exciting, we are now working closely with Pia to create something special for breast cancer patients.
