We are Europe's leading NGO coalition fighting dangerous climate change.
About us
Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe is Europe's largest coalition working on climate and energy issues. With over 200 member organisations in more than 40 European countries, representing over 44 million citizens, CAN Europe works to prevent dangerous climate change and promote sustainable climate and energy policy in Europe. The vision of CAN is a world actively striving towards and achieving the protection of the global climate in a manner that promotes equity and social justice between peoples, sustainable development of all communities, and protection of the global environment. CAN Europe empowers civil society organisations to influence the design and development of effective climate change policy in Europe, both in the European Union as well as in its Member States and in European countries outside the EU. CAN Europe is recognised as an established civil society voice in both EU policy and the UN climate negotiations. We work to influence decision-makers at the heart of Brussels while supporting our diverse network of members to campaign from grassroots up to governmental level in Members States. CAN Europe works on a broad range of issues including climate, energy and finance policies, to contribute to the zero carbon transition that should allow us to avoid dangerous climate change. We do that with a great team of experts in the CAN Europe secretariat as well as with hundreds of staff from our member organisations, that engage through working groups, mailing lists, conference calls and our bi-annual General Assemblies.

As part of their victory, they travelled as CAN Europe #youth delegates to Vienna🇦🇹, where they engaged with key #climate & #energy stakeholders working in the #WesternBalkans. 📌 Trip highlights included: 🇺🇳 Visit to the UN Environment Programme: The team explored UNEP’s initiatives in biodiversity protection, nature conservation, and climate resilience. UNEP experts showcased how they collaborate with governments and civil society to address pressing environmental challenges across the #WesternBalkans. ⚡ Energy Community: Through a dynamic “Office Hopping” activity, the team connected with experts to discuss topics ranging from #renewableEnergy policies, #electricity market integration, environmental compliance, long-term strategies for climate action and #National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs). 📰 OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media: A pivotal session on #disinformation's impact on public trust and climate action. Last year, supporters of the Build Better Lives Campaign built a giant house outside of the EU institutions Every ‘block’ represented a goal, and every goal could be achieved under an ambitious EU Buildings policy framework #EPBD In his new portfolio as Energy and Housing Commissioner, Dan Joergenson needs to be the catalyst for a socially just transition within the built environment. Better buildings today for better lives tomorrow #BuildBetterLives https://lnkd.in/ewiE5Pn9

Social, health and environmental NGOs, city networks, trade unions and youth movements unite to #BuildBetterLives We are calling on Commissoner Jørgensen and the European Commission to take immediate action on the intersecting crises of the lack of affordable housing, rising energy costs and climate change. The European Parliament has now given it's green light to the new College of European Commissioners. BLOG: Joe Inwood reflects why the Ursula von der Leyen 2.0 Commission must rise up to meet the moment in history we find ourselves in. Read here: https://lnkd.in/ex2HjgZp

📢Input to consultation📢 ⚠️ The 2022 energy crisis should have accelerated the phase-out of fossil fuels, but instead, it drove LNG expansion and deepened gas dependence. As the European Commission reviews its energy security framework, it’s crucial that the EU shifts focus towards energy independence , putting people and the planet first.🌍 To achieve this, we must prioritize: ✅ Energy efficiency & put gas savings first ✅ A 100% renewable energy system ✅ Alignment with EU climate laws, including the EU methane regulation 🔍 Read our input to the consultation 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dXPMmVAu

❌ #COP29 ended with a failed outcome and the rich countries own the responsibility. 📢 Chiara Martinelli: “The talk of tripling from the $100 billion goal might sound impressive, but in reality, it falls far short, barely increasing from the previous commitment when adjusted for inflation and considering the bulk of this money will come in the form of unsustainable loans. This is not solidarity. It’s smoke and mirrors that betray the needs of those on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Despite promises of leadership, the EU has shown a troubling lack of action and ambition, undermining trust and progress when it was needed most. The voices of the most vulnerable have been sidelined, human rights and civil society participation ignored, and accountability swept under the rug. The package on mitigation, adaptation, and finance fails to deliver on the promises of the Paris Agreement and leaves the most vulnerable to pay the price for this inaction.” Read the full reaction to the #COP29 outcome ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dtrbPygp
