Carmeuse, in partnership with the non-profit Junior Achievement, held an Innovation Camp at the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais/Campus Formiga (Brazil) mid-November. The goal? To enable students to develop creative solutions to real challenges in the job market, with mentoring from Carmeuse volunteers. The event brought together 50 students from the Administration, IT, and Electrotechnical courses. Participants had the opportunity to learn about creative methodologies and practical tools, developing skills necessary to thrive in today's job market. At the end of the competition, the students were assessed by a jury who chose the winning project based on criteria such as critical and creative thinking, argumentation, cooperation, and innovation. Carmeuse congratulates the winning team and all the students who took part in the competition. A huge thank-you to the Carmeuse volunteers for sharing their time and expertise! #CarmeuseFoundation #JA #Brazil #volunteers

Chief Carbon Officer, GM Carmeuse Technologies

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Second European Process Industry Conference of A.SPIRE, where I participated in the session on “Process Industry Sectors Dialogue: A Clean Industry for Different Regional Realities.” It was an honor to share the stage with Marit Dolmen, Director of Process Development at ELKEM; Koen Coppenholle, CEO of CEMBUREAU; Małgosia Rybak, EMBA, Climate Change and Energy Director at CEPI; and Dorota Pawlucka, Global Alliances Manager at COVESTRO. Together, we discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in Europe within the context of the industrial deal. During the session, I emphasized several critical points for achieving a sustainable industrial footprint in Europe: ✅ Elevating competitiveness as a strategic priority: We need to create conditions for a strong business case in Europe, including the affordability and availability of green electricity. Additionally, boosting demand for green products is essential to move technical solutions from the innovation stage to deployment. ✅ Government involvement in CCS infrastructure: It’s crucial for governments to take a larger role in creating an action plan to implement world-class carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure. This will ensure that hard-to-abate industries have access to CO2 networks and storage. ✅ Simplifying the legislative framework: We must focus on accelerating the transition to a climate-neutral society by simplifying legislation. This means prioritizing actionable steps over extensive reporting.   #ClimateNeutrality, #goforzero#togetherwecanmakeadifference, #keepitsimple, #greendeal

I had the pleasure of delivering a keynote speech on Safety at the 2024 International Lime Association (ILA) Symposium in Oslo, Norway, followed by a panel discussion. This was a great opportunity to engage and exchange with participating lime players on an area where I believe we can further improve as an Industry. Nobody should risk getting hurt doing their job. I am confident that my call for an intensified sharing of best practices on Safety across the Industry will resonate with participants. #Carmeuse  #ILA #wecommittozeroinjuries

Carmeuse is proud to announce the acquisition of 2,300 hectares of land in the region of Formiga and neighboring cities in Brazil, another step in our journey towards #decarbonization and carbon neutrality by 2050. This significant purchase, finalized in August 2024, aligns seamlessly with our business strategy focused on reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring #sustainability. The use of #biomass reduces CO2 emissions by 30% compared to the use of fossil fuels. Furthermore, for each hectare of planted forest, Carmeuse will capture approximately 260 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere and the forestry assets acquired have a fixed carbon stock of 306 thousand tons.
